I am creating this topic, to build a knowledge base within the Forza Universe, on Racing Etiquette.
What is Racing Etiquette?
These are standard practices both on the race track, in the pits, and behind the scenes, that facilitate fair, open, honest racing, and helps create an environment where racers can drive all out for the win, and be able to predict with some regularity, the behavior of other drivers.
Re-entering the track after an off-track excursion: If you go off the outside of a turn, then come back onto the track at the inside of the next turn, you have to wait for traffic to clear first. This is your penalty for having gone off the track in the first place, and waiting for traffic to clear, makes sure that your foul up, does not also foul up another driver’s race when that driver did make the turn, that you missed.
Starting a race: Pay attention, so that you are not eating a tuna fish sandwich when the green flag drops and you are now a road block to the other drivers behind you. Know how to launch your car, know its behavior, so that you don’t go too hard and rear end somebody, or spin the tires and loop out into somebody. Launch, and follow as closely as your reaction time allows. Don’t try to pass between the start and turn 1, this usually a horrible idea, unless you know your launching harder than your competition, and you can clear them, AND allow for their braking distance. In other words, if you pass somebody between turn 1 and the starting line, and dodge in front of them, you very, very, very likely took the spot they needed to decelerate before the turn. Since you are now in their decel zone, they are going to ram you, and there is very little they can do about it. This then leads to an "unfair racing call out from you, when YOU were the one being inconsiderate.
Completing a pass: If a car passes you, and you go two wide into a corner, both cars try to “hold their line”. If the car that passed you, say o nth inside, has a half car length on you, it is now decision time. You are now in that car’s outside “blind spot”, and in spite of Forza’s new directional arrows, it may be very very hard for that car to know where you are. They may very well decide they are far enough ahead, they car drift to the outside of the corner exit. They may decide to hold their line. Generally speaking, it is the car that is in the blind spot of the other, to avoid the crash. That said, it is also unfair to dive into a corner and take a line from somebody. Generally speaking, you have to have at least half a car length to be able to “own the line”. This can be very contentious, in the digital racing world, and in the physical racing world. Know your abilities, and your car’s limts, if you cannot hold a line, don’t make the pass.
