Question about the 1977 Ford Gilmore Coyote

I was wondering why I cannot use the 1977 Ford Gilmore Coyote car in the 70’s open wheel challenge in the career mode? I fully confess I do not know much about the open wheel cars so I was curious to know the difference between this car and the Ferrari/McLaren that does not allow you to use it.

Simple answer is the Ferrari and the McLaren are R class cars and the Ford Gilmore is a P class car

The Ferrari and McLaren are Grand Prix/Formula 1 cars. given their specs they wind up coming out no higher than the top of R class.

The AJ Foyt car is an Indy car. Given it’s specs it starts in P class and gets to near the top of P class modded.

The answer is in the second paragraph of this post:

Thanks! I figured there had to be a difference in what they were built for, but could not find the info on why.

It is still a fun car to use in free play as long as you don’t turn the drivatars to unbeatable it came in handy in getting Ford to max affinity its really fun on the indy oval and actually decent on the full Long Beach course even though all the other open wheel cars are much better on that track.
