Press previews and full reviews for FH4

Not going to start posting links to reviews on here, but scores across the board are pretty high. I generally don’t pay much attention to the scores themselves as they are very subjective, but they make interesting reading nonetheless.

Congratulations to Playground Games, they seem to have knocked it out of the park again.

9.6 from IGN, very nice, I’m glad they have a legit petrolhead to review the Forza games.

The Paul Semel review is pointless. He’s giving false facts and opinions about things in the game that aren’t even true because he obviously hasn’t spent any real time with a Forza title. His complaint about having to drive to races is hilarious. The fact he doesn’t know about smashing boards to eventually get free fast travel is sad. It shows how little time was spent actually playing so obviously he isn’t qualified to give a review of any kind. It wasn’t his only pet peeve that was based on misinformation either. Where do these morons come from???

I don’t know where I’d come down on the responsibility of reviewers to be experts in their subjects. On the one hand that seems like an obvious requirement, on the other it can reflect the nature of the community which might pick up the game. It’s probably safe to say that the majority of FH4 players through this holiday season will have a fairly limited knowledge of Forza in general and Horizon games specifically, and they may have the same impressions and opinions as he did. Seeing that sentiment may be helpful in embracing new members to the community, or for the developers to understand where the game isn’t providing enough information to a novice player.

Here is a translated version of my conclusion:

It will not get any better in this generation
I am absolutely sure that Playground Games and Turn 10 have reached their peak in this generation of consoles. It won’t get much better with the Xbox One (X). I found Australia more spectacular and I am fed up with left-hand traffic, but otherwise, I can not find any significant flaw that goes beyond nitpicking. Forza Horizon 4 is a dream of a racing game in which everything happens that you can imagine. Sun and snow, day and night, city and country, rallye, drag and stunts, racing, drifting and exploring. It does not matter whether you race cross country or stick to the streets nicely, everyone can be happy here.

It only contains everything, all in all, with 450 beautiful brand cars that look great and sound even better. And let’s not forget the driving, which has a simulation core, but for the arcade game mechanics was a little simplified. I advise demanding pilots who disdain joypads to reduce the maximum turning radius of their steering wheel by half. This simplifies a lot in the hectic rallye events, where the terrific Force Feedback really kicks in.

I welcome the 60-FPS mode on the Xbox One X - I make excessive use of it, which makes me renounce my beloved 4K resolution and play more often on the Console than on PC thanks to HDR. In the next generation of consoles, however, I would like to have a few passersby on the streets of the cities, which still seem a bit deserted. It won’t need many and they can run away in panic if you get too close to them so that nobody will ever be harmed - see The Crew 2. Instead, you can find sheep and wild horses in the country now. That’s nice as well, but not the same.
