I have similar thoughts as @SuperF45T on extended night time… I question the mindset leading to the poll results indicating more like it than not. E.g., If I was rating it as a series-based ‘mix-up’ of conditions, than I’d be less critical of it and maybe give it a positive score. I’m fine with temporary changes meant to mix things up once in awhile. But the concern of it becoming permanent for me are significant and if I was led to believe they are thinking of doing night more permanently-long, then I’d rate it a 0/10 (or negative if I could!)
**The bottom line is that REALISTIC conditions should dictate Horizon developer’s decision-making on stuff like this and respective permanence. Not polls which are highly questionable, riddled with unseen variables and more often than not—not representative of genuine relevance or thorough thinking. **
When does the vast majority of driving occur in the real world? (Day)
What is the proportion of night/day that the majority experience on a daily basis? (I’m guessing 90% daylight, 10% night. Most people are asleep during non-daylight hours)
Which leads into the affect night in Horizon has on me: it makes me want to sleep. I prefer it if I’m playing to wind-down. Normally, when I log into Horizon and it’s night, I usually go do something else off-screen. But this last week that approach was pointless because night was so frequent… so yeah, I just played way less this week.
I agree with your write up and points as well. I don’t think a poll on forums is any real indicator of what the general population really enjoys from the game. You’re going to have a large population of people that cant be bothered with forums or taking a poll that will be missing from the results. I only came to the forums because they linked it in the game news and I was so put out by the endless night driving and the poll results thus far, that I felt I needed to speak up or potentially loose the game I love to a small vocal minority. You got this beautiful landscape with amazing skies, sunsets, etc… why on earth would you go and destroy that part of the game for some whack appeal of driving in darkness… This isn’t GTA, its an arcade/simulation racing game and last I checked most real world racing takes place in the day for good reason. What were seeing here is complete herd mentality.
I know a few people that just get in a drive around in d an c class cars and that’s fun for them. Where are those people represented in the forums? From what I can tell, they aren’t represented at all here. Driving fast all day everyday in lambos, mclarens and whatever other OP meta cars isn’t everything and arguably not even the most enjoyable parts of this game. Like you, if this is just a one off event, ok. I’m fine with switching things up every once in awhile to make things interesting. Its really the addition of the poll and the results that concern me and indicate its being considered as something permanent. That’s the real issue here for me. Thanks for voicing your concern here as well, I appreciate it!
-Please dont take so long between returning exclusive cars. Some are near impossible to get your hands on.
-Please fix the eliminator. Head-to-heads are still broken.
-Keep bringing back evolving world events! cough Parade race and “new PR stunts”, preferably…
-Remove super7 events from right in front of the festival entrance. Unbelievably annoying.
-Add a higher cap-out count for tunes and liveries you can hold, and cars you can hold in your garage. Many many people are getting frustrated, especially longterm players and tuners.
-The drivatars are getting super aggressive lately. Why?
I thought it was just me being crazy but earlier tonight i was like “are they always this aggressive”. Felt more like a game of cat and mouse than a street race
I’ve to wonder if the people that consider this a positive feature actually did more than the necessary races for the weeklies? The neon barriers and the pink light chasing you in certain types of races are nothing but a nuisance IMO.
Having 2 EventLabs in the playlist each week is a nice idea, but they shouldn’t replace other content, and I feel they should vary in style. 1 could be an incredible cityscape where it is clear that a LOT of time went into it, racing with the AI. The other is more of a “challenge” or with an interesting set of custom rules. Gives variety and shows that there is more to EventLab than just prop placement and route creation. Custom rules is a VERY under showcased feature.
There should be a nice mix of things to do in the to earn at least the 20 point reward based on your preferences. Don’t want to “race”, then do the collectibles, photo challenge, treasure hunt, pr stunts and this eventlab with no AI. Oh, you DO want to race, try the championships, trial, horizon tour and this other eventlab. Some weeks this happens, some weeks it doesn’t.
One of my favourite things that you did occasionally in FH4 was playlist championships using custom routes. Is this something you could bring back for FH5 occasionally?
I don’t think they will, even in FH4 they didn’t last very long despite them being the only genuinely new and fresh thing we’d have on a FH4 playlist.
I would rather have that back than the 2 EL’s we have now, some of the EL’s have been great courses but ultimately they’re one off events with no AI, I’d much rather have a championship with 3 routes I’ve never seen before and do some actual racing on them.
I disagree, as has been said the average scores are much higher than some of the previous seasons.
Just because you are used to having very little and very bad doesn’t mean that at first you should cheer the result. (although yes, it is a cognitive bias)
For me (personal judgement), this season is better than the previous ones which were a disaster, in terms of its additions and content; but that’s what I expect from the game’s follow-up. This is, at least, how it should be every season, with good decisions, worthy content and surprises for its players.
For this one, I’m happy with it without being thrilled, if it gets a score of 6 that seems representative. And I encourage the teams to continue in this direction: let it not be the “supra-season” that worked well only to fall back into the ways of redundant and disappointing periods for the players.
You won’t find a single player who doesn’t agree with this! Given the amount of server capacity MS has and the already massive game file size I wonder why they don’t implement it.
NOTE: There IS a way to get lots more liveries- even more than 1 per car - BUT it’s a pain in the butt to implement.
Wholeheartedly agree with this. I find it much harder to navigate and enjoy the game when its “night”, partly because its just not natural (ambiant levels, headlights, etc) and i dislike driving at night in the real world so I’m not thrilled to be stuck with it in a game. If this becomes a thing, then at least allow us to turn it off or set the duration in freeroam/arcades and anything that doesn’t involve “live” online racing like the trial. Personally I’d set my game to noon all the time if i could and I’d turn off things like trees/grass blowing in the wind to cut down on graphics load (laptop player).
I enjoyed them as a thematic flare for the month, but I definitely do NOT want them permanently.
It’s already bad enough playing in first person when someone gently nudges me and my front windshield turns into spider webs, even though I have damage set to none (no cosmetic). Having them turn into neon spider webs while I’m trying to carry [!ForzaPlaYa69420!] through the trial was a kind of stress I don’t want to revisit.
Yep. It varies from person to person. And this update was kind of all across the board for what people thought of it.
I liked it, the Blackwings and LC500 are cars I wanted, and the longer nights were cool while they lasted. But for other people, they want different cars, and don’t like the nights in this game. Hell, some people don’t like the visual effects for antilag.
So while a 6 may seem very average, Playground should probably take it as a step in the right direction (same for Wilds, Japanese Auto, and High Performance).
I’m disappointed there isn’t an option for what we didn’t like.
The radio stations still need improvements too many high performance vehicle related stunts. Need more variety of brand based events. Usually just a couple US based or mainstream Japanese and German cars. Let’s do events with less used cars. I rarely see Mercedes, Austin Martin’s online, they are underrated. Stellantis vehicles are still missing.
I really want to see more arcade style events. Hot Wheels was fun but I enjoyed the Legoland from Horizon 4 more.
New to the game and this was my first series. I was devastated when I saw the cars I missed out on from not playing during the Summer week (Rimac Nivera and ID Zerouno). Hopefully they’ll show up somewhere again. But I’ve had a ton of fun with the festival playlist and grinding through the main game and DLC to get to the point where I have all playlist missions unlocked. I thought the difficult was pretty decent for most things, some much harder than others. Really couldn’t complete most championships and stunts with stock cars. (Dang tuning/upgrading is expensive! More than some of the cars themselves.) I’m looking forward to future series and rewards.
What ? Your argument against a little bit of night time to drive in (was about 10% before and arguably no more during the brief “expanded” night time period) is you want to be REALISTIC ? Have you played the game ? Supercars far outnumbering daily drivers. Jumps that defy physics. Points for destroying stuff with your car. etc. etc. etc. etc. Yeah, ANY argument against the expanded night that starts predicated on being REALISTIC is lost before it begins.
I’ve been wondering though, what exactly was/is the “extended” part of the Extended Night Time ? Is it the longer twilight (seems to be about double the old) each side of actual night (which seems about as long) ? Is it the “more” featured races set for Night ? Is it the apparently more random (buggy ?) nature (as some posts seem to hint at) of the cycle between day and night ? Or something else ? It certainly didn’t seem in my playing and some sitting and timing to be any actual longer nights.
While I haven’t voted yet, and still might not despite the interesting added question, I will say if the choice is over the apparently random length/cycle of this “extended” version and the old predictable one, I’ll take the old, as much as I really want and looked forward to the promised Extended Night Time. Even doubling it to a paltry 20 minutes Night and 60 minutes Day (not counting twilights) would be nice and really doesn’t sound like too much to ask.
In all honesty I couldn’t care less if the nights are longer or not in freeroam. Just don’t make half the races take place in the night and keep that for streetracing.
But please do away with that neon trash and/or don’t bring it back in the future.
