Do you guys think the 12 player multiplayer is enough for an open world ? I think 12 to 16 is very possible on 360 maybe more! But 12 players on a more powerful next gen console isn’t good enough when there games like battlefield supports 64 online players. We could easily have at least 24 players which would make much more sense now clubs are back and you can have 1000 members but only 12 in your game so what’s the point ? What do you guys think ? Leave your opinion below and get the word out to turn 10 to up multiplayer support to more then 12 people in one session :
I suspect the issue is the servers. Don’t forget that they mentioned that the traffic will be synched up as well. Between the 12 allowed players, and the potential for dozens of AI Traffic Drones, the server load would get kind of high. Also, when I read the title, I immediately thought of Dwayne Johnson’s WWE days…
There servers wouldn’t be a issue if they shut down maybe forza 2/3 multiplayers down and use them in newer titles. I see your point with the AI the game is running 30fps to help with that situation on a personal level I like AI in my games but is it more important then more real players to cruise race drift with ? I don’t know the more people who see this it would be nice to see what the majority of you guys have to say on the subject . And I’m talking more about next gen capabilities on more multiplayer support I.e more powerfull=more real online players?
Given the behaviour of online players 12 is more than enough.
I no expert on the matter, but given the rapid acceleration in technology, would the FM2/3 servers be capable of the horsepower required of a FM5/FH2 server?
I’m no expert either I’m just saying more unused severs more fire power for newer titles ? I don’t know I was seeing what people think ![]()
Think of it like Titanfall, you have 12 real players and 36 drivatars making a fun experience overall.
Wow the feedback wasn’t was I wad expecting ! Great to see what you guys think tho. Maybe I’m just being greedy wanting more real life people ? I was thinking to my self the other day how cool would it be to have a 64 player car meet imagian that with like a custom characters you could walk round the car park or track where your car meet is that is like next level awesome and real to life . I’m just saying what you guys think ? P.s your characters can’t be ran over . It came to me when I was talking to a mate about old days of project Gotham where you could walk round the show room and Test drive unlimited had something similar to the custom characters not great graphically but if turn 10 did it ?

I actually misunderstood your original post I think. When I see multiplayer mentioned in a racing game I think of races not the free roam stuff. With racing I do think there is an upper limit after which the extra people detract from the experience. The number is lower than a shooter but the actual number could be debated.
Free roam more would be ok but getting them to communicate would become problematic.
I would like to add that I’m not against having more live players in one Free Roam session. However, I suspect (as I stated previously) server loads or possibly packet size might become too much of an issue and result in potential game-breaking lag. While most shooters have dozens of players running around, they are usually lean on NPC’s. I play Defiance on the 360, and events there with dozens of players and tons of NPCs get laggy has heck.
If its limited to free roam then I wouldn’t mind a few more players. Having more players in a street race or a game of Infected would be more irritating than fun.

Yes I should of said more in free roam I was kind of getting at free roam tbh but races should be cut to 12 - 16 I think.
Free roam should have a mass of player just driving about or drifting in the drift spots around the city would be nice to see this but will it happen for now I don’t think so maybe next time . its a Shame because horizon has lots of potential and I think it’s kind of being held back from what I could be .
I think they should at least have 20 for the XBone! What is all the power on the XB1 meant for???Why not make some use and have 20 for XB1 and maybe 12-16 for the 360
PEACE

20 for Forza Motorsport - sure. But, 20 in Horizon? On these constrained, unfamiliar and multi-surfaced track layouts? 12 in the original Horizon was, in itself, a tricky proposition. I vote for 16 max; and even then I know we are in for some public lobby craziness.

It will be great , I hope too ![]()
Throwing more servers at it won’t mean more players. That’s not the only link in the chain. Games like battlefield can have 64 players, because the maps are relatively small and each players has relatively simple physics. Compare the physics of a soldier running back and forth, side to side, turning around and jumping, with the physics of a car and ALL of it’s systems working in tandem. It’s a massively different scenario. Which is why we get 12 players not 64. The Xbox One’s in each lobby have to sync that data with the lobby, and vice versa. That is a lot more data compared to a shooter. Then you add in traffic, and a completely open world, and you’ve got a massive bandwidth overhead to deal with.
12 players is enough to get a lobby of like minded people and go racing. On the other hand it’s not so many that you’ll spend half your day being hounded by trolls hopefully.
16 would probably be the ideal number, but the data being pushed back and forth to do that was obviously too much. Otherwise they’d have done more. I mean why would they only do 12 player multiplayer if they could have done 16? It would make no sense to limit the online for no reason. So obviously 12 is where they felt the limit should be, and no amount of petitions or whatever will change that. Especially as the game must be about 2 weeks from going gold. The game is all but finished and it’s not as simple as just adding some servers and that will magically expand multiplayer.
At this point the best option is to find ways to make the most out of 12 player lobbies. What kind of game modes are best suited, which events are best for multiplayer etc.
12 is the limit we have, so it’s time to look at ways to get the most out of that.
