No Rear View Mirror this week 6-2-14

Sorry Rear View Mirror readers but preparation for E3 has got this race fan dedicated to other work.

This seems to be the case this time of year every year. What I suggest as an alternate to my words bringing you what happened over the weekend in racing, share your own coverage of the races that you watched.

I appreciate you all filling in for me this week.

I primarily watched the TUDOR Sports Car Championship race at Belle Isle and the Nascar race at Dover. The TUDOR race was pretty exciting at the end in the P class as the top 2 cars of Taylor and Barbosa were battling to almost the end of the race. What determined the winner is when Barbosa went for the pass on the inside and traded paint with Taylor that caused Barbosa’s left rear tire to get cut apparently and finally blew out shredding his tire and limping around to finish the race while Taylor barely took the win with damage from contact with Barbosa really slowing him down and allowing what was the 3rd place car of Westbrook to nearly catch him at the finish. It was a great day though for Chevrolet being in Detroit and taking the win. You can watch the complete race on the IMSA website. TUDOR Sports Car Championship race at Belle Isle

As for Nascar, it wasn’t too exciting as Johnson stunk up the show to win two in a row. I’m not really going to talk about it because frankly, I can’t stand Johnson and the media already talks about him too much.

Never mind. Preparing for the E3 is a acceptable reason

This weekend I cheated on the four-wheeled kings of the road and watched the Erzberg Rodeo in Styria/Austria aka Red Bull Hare Scramble 2014. The domintation of KTM with its EXC 300 is awesome on the uphill cruces, but somehow a KTM Freeride managed it to the finish although all experts attested Dieter Rudolf “no chance even with all luck on this planet”. Congratulations Dieter! Second highlight was the performance of last year’s winner Graham Jarvis. It looked like a losing game, but finally he caught up brilliantly until rank 2. Well climbed

Hey John, life just got more difficult here in Canada, apparently Fox sports1 which took over speed channel has been unable too come too terms with Canadian cable providers so I can no longer watch speed TV which includes the truck races and all the sports car racing…and all the European races I watch over the winter, I sure hope they can work things out in the future, but I did get too watch nationwide and sprint cup races, have fun preparing for E3.

Nice idea. As always I watch the moto gp. The 3 races.
It start by an amazing moto3 race. 10/12 pilots fighting for the first place. In this class motors are not very powerful but the bikes are very light so there is a lot of overtakes and the straight line of the Mugello and the corner at the end are good places to win some places.
A few laps before the end Jack Miller (the championship leader who was not so strong during the race) fail braking and fall in a corner and push out Alex Marquez ( a challenger for the title) and Enea Bastianini a local pilot who make his best race ever…
At the finish line there is only 0.010 seconds between the first Romano Fenatti and the third Alex Rins. Isaac Vinales take the second place. A closed finish after a strong fight.

In the moto2 race’s Jonas folger take quickly the first place and begin to go but Luis Salom, a roockie too, push to catch up Folger and the 2 pilots go. At the middle of the race Tito Rabat (the championship leader) accelerate and catch the leading group. At this moment Salom overtake for first place and push hard to keep the lead but Rabat with his hard tyre beat him easily.

This motoGP race is the 300th GP for Valentino Rossi and it’s at home. But the nine times champion is only at the 10th place on the grid. On the first row, Marc Marquez on pole position, as always, Andrea Iannone second place and Jorge Lorenzo is third. Iannone take the best start but Lorenzo overtake him in the first corner. Marquez is third and fight a few laps against the very fast Ducati (Iannone beat a record during the weekend, 349.6 Kmh on straight line). After Marquez is time to fight against Rossi for Iannone. Rossi overtake for the third place and try to catch up Marquez. Finally Marquez catch up Lorenzo and Rossi stay behind. A very big fight is starting Lorenzo won’t let go his start of season is not good. The 2 pilots fight strongly and correctly at the end Marquez win again6 races for 6 victory it’s amazing. Lorenzo seem to come back at his best level a good news for the show. Rossi, for his 300th GP take the third place.
Moto3 and motoGP race’s was fabulous.

Went to a local drift event, since everyone was on their way home from Formula Drift in Miami, there were a couple professional drivers/cars there (I was stoked…), Danny George and his Miata, Odi Bakchis and his S14, Pat Goodin and his S13, and Matt Coffman and his 240. It was kinda rainy, but atleast it wasn’t blazing hot. That was pretty much what my weekend consisted of.

Nice work folks!

Just as a heads up E3 kicks off on Monday so RVM will be on hold again.

I will return with awesome race coverage following the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a special Le Mans focused edition of RVM.

And Eduardo, if you have coverage of the cop chases I think that would rock!

Cadillac finishes one - two in Detroit as Johnnie O’Connell and Andy Pligrim win the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix sponsored by Chevrolet. O’Connell brings home his third win of the season for Cadillac in the Pirelli World Challenge GT Class, while teammate Pilgrim, makes up for a race one disaster to finish behind the GT drivers points leader, in race two. Andrew Palmer and Mike Skeen in Audi R8’s finish 3rd & 4th, while Anthony Lazzaro in his Ferrari 458 Italia, round out the top five in the second half of the double header. O’Connell also takes the checkers in race one on Saturday, with Palmer and Lazarro in tow, followed by Skeen and Alex Figge in his McLaren 12C GT3.

To say Dean Martin owes Vegas is one thing, but to own Detroit, Martin in his Picture Cars East/Rehagen Racing Ford Mustang Boss 302S takes the double, wining both rounds of the GTS class at Belle Isle. Martin has won every race entered in PWC at Detroit, going three for three on the island. Very close racing between eight cars, at one time, resulted in glory for some and heartbreak for others. GTS points leader, Jack Baldwin finish 2nd and 4th in his Porsche Cayman over the weekend to retain the top spot by one point over Mark Wilkins, who finished 4th and 3rd in his Kia Optima. Martin’s perfect weekend catapults him to third in the GTS drivers standings, ahead of Wilkin’s teammate Nic Jonsson and fellow Mustang driver, Tony Buffomante.

Next Pirelli World Challenge event will take place at Road America, June 19th-21st.
