Watch Tanner Foust and Josef Newgarden Compete in Forza Motorsport 7

Tanner Foust and Josef Newgarden may be accomplished professional drivers, but on September 30 at 1 p.m. PT their true talent will be put to the test as they go head-to-head with the all-new Forza Motorsport 7 on Xbox Live Sessions, an interactive livestream hosted on the Mixer Xbox Channel. During the livestream, fans who tune-in can submit questions and get the chance to win some awesome prizes.

This ultimate racing showdown between Josef, who was just crowned IndyCar champion, and Tanner, former champion in both Global Rallycross and Formula Drift, will be hosted by Xbox Daily Show host Major Nelson and Forza Community Manager, Brian Ekberg on Xbox One S broadcast live from the Petersen Automotive Museum.

In the world of racing drivers, few have a deeper Forza roots than Josef Newgarden. In fact, before he was a professional driver, Newgarden was a big-time Forza leaderboard guy. Good thing too, because we’ll be kicking off our very first Forza Motorsport 7 Bounty Hunter during our Xbox Live Sessions livestream. While the event is open now in Forza Motorsport 7 (check the “Featured Events” channel in Rivals Mode), you’ll have to watch the livestream to get the lowdown on Josef’s Gamertag. After all, it wouldn’t be a Bounty Hunter event unless you know exactly who you’re chasing, right?

Since we didn’t get to my drift practice last week we will be going drifting in Forza Motorsport 7 for most of the #TuesdayDrive tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific on Twitch and Mixer. Bring your best drift machine for some multi-player tandem drifting action.

I will also be trying to put in a better time in Josef Newgarden’s Rivals event. I may even have a special guest who is willing to give me tips, because we all know I could use the help. I hope to see you there.

Forza Motorsport 7 Launch Event
You may have heard that Forza Motorsport 7 has launched. With early access for Ultimate Edition buyers starting last week, and global playability beginning today, the world is getting into the greatest console racing experience to ever hit the screen.

Saturday, at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, the all-day launch event took place with celebrity appearances, tons of Forza playing, music, exotic cars, and more. Forza community manager Mechberg was on the couch with Major Nelson of Xbox. IndyCar Champion Josef Newgarden took on Red Bull GRC racer and stunt master Tanner Foust, and even Verne Troyer (aka “Mini-Me” from the Austin Powers movies) got into the action.

Since Forza Motorsport 7 launched into early access last week, everyone here at Turn 10 has been keeping a close eye on our players’ feedback. The most important thing to us is to maintain open communication with the Forza Community. We’ve heard what you have had to say and, starting today, you can expect some significant changes.

VIP and Ultimate
Over the weekend we heard loud and clear from Ultimate Edition owners expressing frustration over the VIP membership offer in Forza Motorsport 7. We immediately updated the VIP description in the Windows Store to alleviate any future confusion. As head of the studio, I apologize for any confusion or frustration our players may have experienced.

Going forward, we will continue to ensure that Forza Motorsport 7 VIPs receive the most value for their VIP membership, including new experiences and great content. Starting today we’re sending all Forza Motorsport 7 VIPs three additional Forza Edition cars:

2016 Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 Forza Edition
2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Forza Edition
2010 Maserati Gran Turismo S Forza Edition

Forza 7 VIPs will be able to download all these cars from the in-game message center and add them to their car collection. Players will not only enjoy an immediate bump to their Car Collection score after adding these Tier 5 Legendary cars to their garages, they’ll also be able to take advantage of the inherent perks that each of these Forza Edition cars offer. In addition to the cars, we’re also sending all Forza 7 VIPs 1 million credits.

Secondly, and even more significantly, we will be changing VIP rewards in Forza Motorsport 7. This new system will work like it did in Forza Motorsport 6, offering a 2X base credit bonus after every race. We’ve already started work on this feature and we will release it as soon as possible. Look for more information on this update as we near the release date.

PC Stability and Performance
Since the launch of Forza Motorsport 7 on Windows 10 PCs, I’ve been delighted to see so many players enjoying the Windows 10 version on a huge variety of PC hardware configurations. We’ve enjoyed seeing feedback from fans who are praising how Forza 7 plays on their personal PCs. That said, we are aware of stability and performance issues that some PC players are facing. The team is working around the clock to report, investigate, and resolve these issues as quickly as possible. In fact, our first update for the game went live yesterday, addressing several PC stability and performance issues. The quality of the PC experience will continue to be a top priority.

Just before revealing the Porsche 911 GT2 RS to the world, Dan Greenawalt had a crisis of confidence.

The creative director for Microsoft’s Turn 10 Studios had spent almost a year bringing Porsche’s latest supercar into Forza Motorsport 7, the latest installment in the venerable, hugely successful racing-game franchise for the Xbox. But until this moment in June, during the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles, hardly anyone outside Porsche knew for sure that the GT2 existed. Even most of Greenawalt’s colleagues had been in the dark while Porsche and a handful of senior Turn 10 employees collaborated in secret. On stage at Microsoft’s Xbox press conference, Greenawalt wasn’t sure whether the gaming audience would appreciate what it was about to see.

“I’m a car guy,” Greenawalt says. “I know this Porsche 911 GT2 RS is, like, from another planet. It’s an incredible car. So I’ve got all the inside baseball knowledge, and I looked out on this crowd, and I’m like, ‘Are they going to get it? Are they going to understand that this is a history-changing moment, where an automotive industry has chosen to debut a premier supercar in front of a gaming industry–like a true merging of these two industries? Is this crowd going to get it?'”

If Greenawalt is exaggerating the implications, it’s only by a little. When Turn 10 Studios started working on the Forza series 15 years ago, the relationship between automotive and gaming industries was largely transactional. Auto makers would collect licensing fees for the rights to their cars’ names and likenesses, and they had final say over how their cars were presented, but otherwise they kept gaming at arms’ length.

Over time, auto makers have started viewing racing games as more than just a source of licensing revenue. The Forza series has generated over $1 billion in retail sales, and is now played by 5 million people per month. For Porsche, Ford, Audi, and others, closer partnerships on games like Forza Motorsport 7–which launched on Xbox One and PC this week–are a prime opportunity to reach impressionable young minds.

The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) today announced a strategic alliance with the award-winning, world-renowned Forza franchise developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios.

This alliance includes a multi-faceted platform of activation highlighting IMSA cars, tracks and partners already aligned with the franchise which is home to the largest online racing community in gaming. Earlier this week Turn 10 launched Forza Motorsport 7, the most comprehensive, beautiful and authentic racing game ever made on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

“This alliance between IMSA and the Forza franchise further solidifies the long-standing relationship between these two outstanding brands,” IMSA president Scott Atherton said. “IMSA cars and tracks have enjoyed a significant presence in the game for many years, and we are proud to have our series featured to the millions who play the game every day.”

“We’re proud to celebrate the launch of Forza Motorsport 7 by announcing the alliance with IMSA, a long-standing partner of our franchise,” Turn10 Senior Business Director Mike Humphreys said. “At Turn 10 Studios we are driven by car passion, technical innovation and the thrill of competition; all pursuits that we share with IMSA. FM7 Content Update for PC & Xbox - October 10
In addition to stability fixes, the update included this feature change:

• We’ve addressed a game exploit whereby players could use Forza Edition cars to gain unrealistic leveling and rewards. In the interest of maintaining game balance, we have instituted rewards changes for all Forza Edition cars, replacing flat XP secondary rewards with a percentage-based credit (CR) reward. With this update, all Forza Edition cars will offer a primary percentage CR reward and a secondary conditional percentage CR reward. All VIP Forza Edition cars will now offer a primary +50% CR reward and a secondary conditional +50% CR reward. For example, the 2000 Nissan Silvia Spec-R Forza Edition previously offered a primary CR reward of +25% and a secondary flat +5,000 XP award after 3 good drifts in a race. With this update, the Silvia now offers a primary reward of +25% CR and a secondary reward of +25% CR after 3 good drifts in a race. As a further example, the 2014 BMW M4 Coupe Forza Edition (a VIP FE car) previously offered a primary +40% CR reward and a secondary flat +10,000 XP reward at the Nürburgring. With the update, the BMW now offers a primary +50% CR reward and a secondary +50% CR reward at the Nürburgring.

Hi, my name is Tyler Finney. I’m the Lead Concept Artist for Turn 10. Our Concept team is not only responsible for pre-production concept and visual direction throughout production, but also high-concept asset creation in special cases, such as our driver suits.

Hello, my name is Toren Lehrmann and I’m a 3D Artist at Turn 10, specializing in shaders and materials. I was responsible for creating, editing, and managing the shader library for cars, tracks, and drivers on the project. Shaders are the backbone for a material in our proprietary ForzaTech engine, and they contain the instructions, textures, and parameters which determine the look for assets in the game.

FORZA MOTORSPORT 7 RETURNS TO RED BULL GRC, THIS TIME IN LOS ANGELES

After making its debut in the Red Bull Global Rallycross paddock in Seattle last month, Forza Motorsport 7 will be playable at Red Bull GRC Los Angeles on October 13-14.
