So far I’ve played a couple sessions of multiplay with mixed results. It appears that unlike Horizon, you cannot choose from your own cars but need to pick from factory models. The problem is, I don’t have a library of tunings. Is this something I should try to build? In a class based race for example, I had wanted to choose the Subaru which I play most in single player, but its stock class was lower and therefore unelectable. In short, I’m not sure where to begin. Although there are some racers at my speed, the top guys who are 140 or so levels above me are clocking lap times 30 seconds or more better than I can do.

Sounds like you need more time in Career Mode.
You will earn more Credit$ to upgrade your cars with.
Plus you will get your car Affinity up to level 4 where most of the upgrade parts will be FREE.

This is untrue, when you enter a lobby select ( choose car ) you should see your garage symbol to the left of the factory symbols.
I figured it out last night and yes… I feel so slow. Hehe. For my chosen manufacturers I’ve also found that running them a few races in multiplayer before career helps me bump the affinity in races that don’t count before returning to career and buying upgrade parts for my cars.
