Finally had the chance to built the car and to try your tuning settings on Yas Marina North.
Your setup was very drivable and balanced, definitely a good job. The only thing I noticed is that it was a bit difficult to manoeuvre it through the esses and the chicane before the harpin. You have to slow down a tiny bit too much with your setup and I really think its the low bump. With your setup I managed in a 10 lap run a 1.11.2. Also I got the impression that the braking distance was too long probably because of too much camber. It’s very apparent at the end of the long straight.
I then slapped my calculated tune on the car and was very quickly able to drive a 1.10.5. However I noticed two flaws right out of the box with my calculated settings: the accel was a bit too low so I needed to turn it up to the default 70% again and for some reason the calculation of the front camber is still off and I had to reduce it to 1.7. Both changes have been updated in my post above.
I also put the ride height to minimum and changed brake pressure to 125% (my preference).
Well, I ran some laps this weekend and your changes definitely helped! I see what you mean with that section at the chicane up to the hairpin…it seemed to be more consistent. (This is still a challenging section for me!) But I was able, in rivals, to improve to the low 1:13s (about #260 in the Americas). I know I could get into the 1:12s with some practice. Man, you guys are quick! I need to start learning how to use the clutch, I think. But, thanks a lot for jumping in and helping out with this! I really appreciate it.
I just ran some laps and improved to a 1:13.029 and #249 in the Americas…I’ll get there yet!
I found out that I was locking the front brakes and adjusted the bias more to the rear. That made a difference at the end of the long straight. No more locking the fronts. I want to break into the 1:12s!!
Since from my experience 48% seems to be the sweet spot for brake balance, try 48% with 123 or 122 brake pressure, this roughly equals 47% at 125 in terms of front brake pressure but will give you better turn in while braking.
