Dear Turn 10 / Playground Games / Microsoft Studios / Tuners / Painters & Fellow Players,
My name is Jason, I am a father of 7 beautiful children (2, 7, 11, 18, 21, 23 & 24) at the ripe old age of 43 living in Sydney, Australia and I have been gaming on PC’s since way back in 1984 when I got my first taste on the Commodore 64. I actually fell in love with gaming as a kid playing on the Atari 2600 in the late 70’s. As time went on I found that I really liked the racing style games that were coming out and that was what I mostly played.
Fast forward to the mid to late 90s when racing wheels started coming out like the Microsoft Sidewinder Wheel with FFB that plugged into a 15 pin Game Port (ahh, fond memories). Games like the Geoff Crammond GP series and Papyrus with Grand Prix Legends (still played and modded to this day, released in 1998 and still amazing to play). Just as the century ticked over I started to play some TOCA Racing on the Play Station One, this was my first experience with a more modern style of racing game on a console and to be quite honest I was not really very impressed. Gran Turismo came along and I tried it out also but again, I was not really that impressed with it at all … it just did not feel like driving a car as much as the PC racing games of the same time period did, actually not even close.
So, for a very long time, I stuck to playing my racing games exclusively on my gaming computers that I built over the years. I did try out some more Gran Turismo games on friends Play Stations over the years and even bought a PS3 to play GT5 … for all of 5 minutes (relatively speaking) and never touched it again ![]()
Funnily enough, I never really knew anyone who owned an Xbox so never had a chance to try any of the Forza games until I got a second-hand Xbox for our younger boys. They had some of the Project Gotham Racing games and even the first Horizon game but after my experience on the other console playing racing games, I didn’t even think about trying it out.
When I saw how good FM5 looked on the XBox One a few years ago I recall saying to myself, dayum, that looks saweeet as … then last year when FM6 came out I was again impressed by how good it looked but I had no intentions of getting an XBox to play them as by now I have put quite a bit of time and money into my PC, sim racing cockpit and games collection and FM5 was not available for the PC so I just admired how good it looked. But when FM6:Apex was announced for PC I was rather excited that I was finally going to get to try a Forza game on my gaming PC with my full cockpit (I was left a little disappointed here I must admit, I have 5 devices on my cockpit and only 1 of them is supported in the game). At first, I was amazed at the graphics on the PC but everything else kind of felt reminiscent of my earlier GT experiences, at least until the wheel support was added then it felt much better but still not quite there, I was still having fun with it though.
Now, this brings me more to the pointy end of the explanation of my appreciation for what you guys have managed to achieve with your most recent releases on the PC. Pretty soon after my FM6: Apex experience FH3 was announced and also coming to PC as a full release game. Again feeling a little excited after getting a taste with the FM6: Apex Beta, I went ahead and pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition and was completely blown away by how much fun it was to play (aside from all the early bugs and crashes to desktop). So much fun that I decided now was the time to buy an XBox One, as the new S model was out we decided to grab a 500GB one with a couple of free games and I went ahead and downloaded my digital copy of FH3 for the XBox. Now I had so much fun playing it with a controller from the comfort of my bed I went ahead and picked up a copy of FM6 and now I am finding myself lost to the world of Forza. I quickly picked up an Elite controller and have now also ordered a copy of FM5 from the MS Store for $29.95AU as it is currently on sale and as soon as I see a good deal on FH2 I will be grabbing a copy of that as well, I need to get my Forza Score up a few more tiers, with all the Forza games available on XBox One I should be able to get to 14000 Forza Points ![]()
In closing, a MASSIVE thank you to all of the people that have made this experience possible (that is all of you btw) and I look forward to seeing what you bring to the table with FM7 and beyond … You have totally converted me from a PC only racer and have shown me just how much fun can be had playing a racing game again … that is the essence of my experience with Forza thus far.
Thanks for reading ![]()
