More dynamic and upgrade-responsive car engine sound changes

Hey everyone,

One of the biggest things I’m hoping to see improved in Forza Horizon 6 is overall car sound design.

From the early footage, cars like the GT-R and 488 already sound like a step forward, which is awesome. But I really hope this improvement extends across the whole car list, because right now many cars in previous titles feel like they lack depth and personality in how they sound.

What I’d love to see is a more dynamic and upgrade-responsive sound system, where the noises change meaningfully depending on the parts we install.

Upgrades Should Change How Cars Sound

When we upgrade components, the sound should evolve too. For example:

  • Air intake upgrades → more noticeable induction noise

  • Turbo upgrades → louder spool, sharper flutter, stronger blow-off valve sounds

  • Superchargers → more pronounced whine that scales with RPM

  • Camshaft upgrades → lopey, aggressive idle and deeper exhaust tone

  • Exhaust upgrades → real differences in volume, pitch, and bass

Right now, a lot of upgrades don’t feel like they change the personality of the engine enough. It would be amazing if we could really hear the mechanical changes we’re making.

More Depth & Character Per Engine Type

Different engine layouts should feel much more distinct:

  • V8s → deeper rumble, more low-end bass, stronger off-throttle burble

  • Inline-4s → sharper, higher-pitched tone with more aggressive induction

  • Inline-6s → smooth but strong mid-range growl

  • High-revving NA engines → more scream and top-end intensity

Adding more low-frequency bass and texture would make cars feel more powerful and physical, especially on good sound systems or headphones.

Turbo & Performance Effects

Turbo cars in particular could have much more personality:

  • Louder and more realistic turbo spool

  • Distinct flutter vs blow-off valve sounds depending on setup

  • More dramatic anti-lag effects on race builds

  • Clearer 2-step / launch control sound when used

These are huge parts of car culture and would add so much life to builds.

Transmission & Mechanical Sounds

Another big immersion layer is drivetrain sound:

  • DCT gearshifts should have sharper, more mechanical shift noises

  • Sequential gearboxes should sound aggressive and mechanical

  • More audible transmission whine, gear engagement, and drivetrain noise at speed

These details make race builds and track cars feel more authentic.

Player Control (If Possible)

If the tech allows, it would be amazing to have basic sound tuning options, like adjusting:

  • Exhaust tone (deeper vs higher pitched)

  • Volume balance between induction and exhaust

  • Aggressiveness of backfires and overrun pops

Even small sliders or preset sound profiles could give players more control over how their builds feel.

Final Thought

Cars shouldn’t just look different after upgrades — they should sound and feel different too. Better audio depth, clearer mechanical character, and upgrade-driven sound changes would massively increase immersion and make every build feel more unique.

Really hoping FH6 pushes car audio to the next level.

Absolutely 777% agree with this

Agreed.

Yes Agreed watch to YT

I agree 100% but I’d like to add to this. Please for the love of Japanese car culture, MAKE BETTER ROTARY SOUNDS!!! The rotary sounds in Forza horizon 4 and 5 were genuinely appalling.

Rotaries being such a big part of Japanese car culture need to be done justice. They need to have that proper rotary sound and upgrading the engine should add porting sounds like Bridgeport = max engine porting and then gives the car a BRAP BRAP idle. Please playground games, please. Don’t ruin the rotaries in the game again.

Completley agree! Great point! The rotary sounds need improvement. In general all cars need an improvement in that Idle space
