Mid-Engine RWD Diff Settings - Ford GT

I have tuned just a couple of cars which are mid-engine RWD and usually run into trouble with oversteer. I am currently tuning the 2005 Ford GT and running into the same issue. When I accelerate (primarily 3rd and 4th gear shifts) I get a lot of rear wheel spin and oversteer. In addition, when I brake (along with throttle-off) entering a corner and down-shift, I also get the rear moving out on me. And, at corner-exit, upon throttle-on, I get the rear spin again.

I usually use as a starting point, Worm’s mid-engine diff settings recommendations which are, 20-50 for Accel and 10-50 for Decel. My starting point was 50 Accel and 10 Decel. I started tweaking from there yet can not find a sweat spot for some reason. I currently have maxed the setting to ZERO for Accel and 100 for Decel, and, it’s doing ~ok…yet, I really do not like the feel. Maybe I passed by a couple of spots that it would do much better.

Anyway, if you have any thoughts, I’d certainly appreciate your inputs. I’ll test away… Thanks!

I should have mentioned that this is for S-class (power…speed).

it may not be just your diff that is causing your oversteer PR. you may want to revisit your arbs and tire pressures . if it wouldnt be too much trouble could you post what settings you currently have on the car ?

Thanks Reaper…I had nightmares about this, lol…and, I am also thinking it could potentially be something different. I will post the key items in a moment (once I pull the car up).

Lol i probably sneak into Worm’s ranges but at opposite ends to where you started.

I start with 10 accel and 40 decel on Mid engined RWD and tweak from there. My usual changes are increases from those numbers so I often end up with say 20 accell / 50 decel or thereabouts.

EDIT: I also view tuning as tweaking rather than using set values. So if you are getting on gas oversteer AND IF you conclude adjusting the diff is the best solution then you need to reduce accel. If you have off gas oversteer then increase decel. But this is all assuming that the diff is the underlying problem and that may or many not be the case.

Thanks Eduardo! Yeah, most of the time I start in the middle of the ranges, yet for this case knowing I might (and I did) have an issue I started high on Accel and low on decal to see (really learn) how far I needed to go in the opposite direction. I tested so many combos that I probably lost the sweat spot for my feel and comfort.

I still need to confirm other setting and make sure it is not induced by another variable. To Reaper’s point as well.

keep the values closer together for diff i use around 35/38 accel and decel respectively i had problems with a ferrari recently and this was how i was advised to go with diff on mid engine cars and it worked a treat

Thanks Jamo! I will certainly check this out.

Attention PRkid, sent you a PM but it said your inbox is full. Might want want to delete some rubbish.

Sorry about that FOOT. I had not realized that I was at that point, but anyway, it is now clear for receiving. Thanks for the heads-up.

if its general tuning info could i have it too lol

no probs dude it worked for me and im aggressive in and out of turns the figures was a base line value i have a super fast ford gt s class ill look see what value i got on it for diffs : )

A trick I use to take the diff out of the equation is to hold the clutch button going into a corner. Its a good way to check your ARBs and brakes.Once it turns the way you like, then adjust the diff.Good luck!

Thanks for the tip CC 53!
