I didn’t take it personally in any way, shape, or form. I just respectfully disagree with you. I get what you’re saying in general, but I honestly don’t think its that big of a deal. I can’t think of any leaderboard that has this motor/trans combo at the top of it. Heck, there aren’t even many top tens across 50 leaderboards. This combo seems to automatically make your car very competitive in the class (assuming you can tune out the torque steer), but I sure don’t think it makes the playing field unlevel. It takes a Kia from being a very ordinary car to a top 25 car. It does similar things with the Subarus and Evo’s too. However, the 90 Camaro is still able to easily beat it on a lot of tracks. The Civic is still very competitive with it and can be better if built/tuned right. Same thing with the Renault Turbo5. If we’re going to kick the Rally combo out of C class, then why not the 5.7 that is at the top of many leaderboards? You can build that thing to have almost 600HP and still stay in the class. Again, not trying to be argumentative, but why is the 5.7 ok and the rally combo isn’t?
What do you want done? Have this combo bumped up to B class? That’s kind of unfair as it can barely make the top ten in C class as is. It gets totally outclassed in B class. I built the same Kia for B class. While its still a good car, it can’t keep up with most of the top performers in that class though.
With all due respect, I just fail to see how this combo creates an unfair advantage in any way. Granted, my opinion is somewhat swayed by the recent success that I, and others, have had with it. Yet, until it starts hitting #1 on leaderboards, I see no problem at all. Even if it does start hitting #1, I still don’t see a problem with it as its only capable of roughly 200 HP less than the 5.7. You don’t need to short shift the 5.7 or have it run out of steam above 135 MPH either. Like I said in my earlier post, there are all kinds of weird glitches in the PI system. I won’t even begin to guess as to why it is the way it is, but the glitches exist with multiple cars, engine/trans combos, aero packages, etc. The only advantage I see to this combo is it fits in smaller cars that are capable of better handling. Even with that, my Kia is 2,900 lbs and the Evos are over 3,000. So, the little bit of weight advantage it enjoys is easily offset by the power that other motors make in the class.
I think the reason it slipped through is you have to short shift the engine to exploit the performance potential. TURN10s AI testing probably never “thought” to do this.
It might because the stock gearbox effectively uses only 5 gears. Each change with the stock box drops the revs lower into the high torque band than the 6 gear street box does. Good call Foot.
That’s not the case with the Kia. Both the stock and street transmissions have 6 gears. That’s the reason we built the Kia, we had been using a Subaru 22B and it just wasn’t good enough with only 5 gears. The extra gear in the Kia makes all the difference. The 22B handled better because of it being AWD, The Kia embarrasses the 22B in every other area though.
Get over it!!! its 14 points … You were able to throw every upgrade that didnt increase speed on the dart. Putting a races trans would double the PI and jump like 4 class.
aeros, rally motor, street trans, 5.7, centerfugal are all cheap pi.
I apologize, I was totally wrong in a prior post. That’s what I get for allowing my memory to be in control when I should have looked things up. Apparently the Rally motor is far more successful than I gave it credit for. It has several top spots and lots of top tens. Still, its not a ridiculous amount more than other cars. The Camaro, Stradale, Buick, and Renault share similar success. Its not like the Mini is in D class where it completely owns more than half the leaderboards.
Nevertheless, I was wrong and wanted to correct myself…
