Goofed around a bit today with clutch on the lotus as opposed to manual without.
Probably not using it right but I am not sure I see any benefit. The paddle shift gear changes seem instant without clutch. What is the benefit of the clutch? Does it somehow engage the gear faster despite the extra step of pushing a separate clutch button?
From what I have heard in previous Forza’s the clutch is less effective in the higher class racecars. As a non-clutch user don’t quote me but it seems the race transmissions shift so fast the gain is less noticeable.
The real E21 is clutchless manual and gear changes are essentially instantaneous. You can’t manually operate a clutch fast enough for the rate at which an F1 car can breeze through gears. Gear changes are around 0.05 seconds (five hundredths of a second.)
It’s basically a automatic because you use paddle shifters. not really a manual unless your manualy moving the gears yourself. But yes with these cars just use manual without clutch I’ve ran loads of tests on forza 4 with the Bugatti veyron ss on a mile if I used clutch I would never no matter how many attemts hit a 19.9 sec mile but once I switched it to manual without clutch it shifts faster due to not having to press the clutch in and shifting and I could hit a 19.9 sec 1 mile
F1 cars are not clutchless

I assume he meant they drive like a normal paddle shift vehicle. If a car has gears then it has a clutch but apart from launching the clutch is automatic on an F1 car. When he says “clutchless manual” he means you gear manually without engaging the clutch yourself and like I said before the driver only uses the clutch manually when launching.
Here’s two videos explaining it just in case:
There’s a little clip in the second video that allows you to see the driver shifting the car using only the gear paddles.

man that tiny
that car i think you can actually run an auto trans about as fast
Another downside of using clutch with the E21 is that it’s basically impossible to launch without massive gearing changes.
In answer to the Original post, here is the answer your after.
If in normal settings manual is as fast as clutch there is nothing in it, although youl probably hit the limiter more with clutch thus losing you a nats hair of time, change your controller sensitivity settings and run simulation and you will be faster with manual w/clutch against just plain manual.
You cannot use real life instances and think they run exactly in the game, as we have a controller for the game makers to adjust to you’l never be the same in a clutchless transmission and be able to get everything 100%.
So in normal settings theres no difference you wont lose or gain in either.
Hope that helps.
