Low class fun

Im really looking forward to Japan! I’ll be rockin down the road, cruisin in the first D class classic I can get my hands on. I certainly hope there are plenty of events for the lower classes. D,C,B is where its at.

awesome maybe I’ll see u out there.. I’m just happy to know I’m not the only one… I fully expected to be ridiculed. But seriously Ive always thought it was kinda funny that theres all these lower tiers and the events for those cars are pretty few and far between.

Not only do I plan on finding a nice D class car to fully explore the entire map with, I’m also planning on making some D-class specific races once I’ve gotten fully settled into the new world. I have a particular interest in wanting to create miniature races for D and C class Kei cars.

I still wish a Horizon game would start out with giving us some cash and turning us loose in the auto show to purchase a D class car (or F class for those who remember those days) and work our way up!

In my experience, when someone says “Anything below S1 is boring to drive” it’s usually code for “I’m a bad driver and I need the extra performance to smooth over the frustrations”.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, we all have to start somewhere, but the first step to getting better is admitting you’re bad in the first place, a step that I’m embarrassed to say took me longer than I’d like to admit to take.

But yeah, B class stands for Best class. I also find C really interesting to build and drive. You can’t have everything in that class, there has to be a compromise somewhere, and that gives the cars and builds in that class so much more character.

I’m not such a huge fan of D class, but I think that has more to do with the wide roads and wider offroad courses of Forza Horizon than the cars themselves.

I like that… B stands for Best. B is a ton of fun. Its also fantastic for really learning how to tune…

B is my favorite class because tuning makes such a difference, and even the “META” cars can usually be beaten under the right circumstances.

That being said I hope that there is going to be C and D class options in the Horizon Open, and that the tour will do more than just have buggies in D class.

I’ve personally always enjoyed running the lower classes more than the opposite end. From a fundamentals standpoint, I’ve found running Rivals courses through the class levels to be a great way to improve your abilities & better understand the nuances the subtle differences control inputs can make as you progress through higher power & handling characteristics.

You are squarely in the hedge if you do that at S2 class.

I absolutely support racing in the lower classes. If you’re new at the racing game, racing in the lower classes - even D if you’re brand new - is the best way to learn driving skills. Stay there while you learn when and how much to lift or to brake, when to time the turn-in, and how to cross-steer in the drifts (yes, even the D-class cars can drift!) . The competition can be as challenging down there as in the higher classes. As your skills improve, you’ll find that they easily transfer to faster cars as you work your way up the classes. In FH4 and FH5, I turned in a lot of D and C class tunes, focusing on good handling, thinking that they might be of some value to beginner racers. I don’t know how they were used, or if people even thought they were useful, but that was why they were there. And I raced them myself. I still sometimes like to run a race series with one of them, where I can sit back and cruise through the race without having to think too hard about what’s happening.

Speaking as someone who isn’t particularly interested in the lower classes, one issue is that the performance gap between cars is simply too wide compared to A/S1.
In the higher classes, there were several cars that could be considered “meta” thanks to engine swaps and 4WD conversions, but in B and below, there’s just not enough leeway for PI.
It would be nice if there were a few more engine swaps available for the lower classes, such as the 1.6 VVT.

Yeah I ran into issues with group races where some would go for power builds and win by ridiculous margins. It’s not keeping with the spirit of these lower classes at all.

Random somewhat thread related question: Anyone also build 100 PI restriction builds?

I’ve got a handful in every forza game. It’s shockingly fun, especially if the map features a small, tight circuit to unleash the madness on with friends.

Some of them are obvious (Peel P50, Isetta, etc), but there are a few that aren’t as obvious that I’m glad I kept at 100.

I have done this before, yes! Generally kept for idle cruising rather than racing, the P50 being a prime example. Getting it to D100 gives it a notable bump to performance while still remaining perfectly driveable. I always felt like a tourist puttering about Mexico in it, good times.
