Looking for feedback on my first Forza GT Livery

I tried my hand at painting a racing livery, using the Emil Frey XK GT3.
It’s based off Maplin, this defunct chain of electronics stores in the UK.
It has 200 layers and may be simplistic compared to some of the top ones, but i’d be interested in getting everyone’s thoughts on it.

I do like it. It’s very simplistic.
There are a couple of things. One when you post pictures try to post the picture in he thread. I think there is a thread about this. Two never compare the top liveries and the amount of layers. Based on the amount I get from paints my simple designs end up doing the best. It was a BMW from forza 6, and it only had probably 300 layers. Just paint until you feel like its ready.

There is a stickied thread in the Forzatography section on how to post pictures, it focuses on using Flickr but the principles are the same…

Simplistic is good, I like it as is, but it could benefit from some added sponsors in my opinion. Definitely a tyre company and I’d also give it a more realistic number board (use the search feature in the vinyl groups for some inspiration). I’m not sure if it’s just the lighting in the Forza garage but the ‘Maplin’ logo is barely visible? You definitely want that to “pop”, personally I’d go with the full White that you’ve used in your base.

I like the different colours for the sides, it looks like they run around to the back of the car a little - have you tried to fade them into each other like the (new) logo on the right? GRADIENT SHAPES are great for achieving this effect, it might just add that finishing touch to the overall look… or it might not, but it’s good to experiment.

Be it Race or Fantasy, all experienced Forza painters will agree that the devil is in the detail. We’re given a selection of basic fonts but more often than not we have to use the various shapes provided to get the exact match of any given logo/decal. Looking at the original Maplin logo (on the left) a few details stand out:

  1. the shape of the ‘a’ - specifically the straight stem
  2. the slightly shorter than normal stem on the ‘p’
  3. the curl at the bottom of the letter ‘l’
  4. the dot above the ‘i’ is square & a different colour
  5. the overall thickness of the letters.

That may seem picky but it’s not meant to be. Depending on whether you’re intending to share your designs or not that attention to detail can make all the difference. Eventually we all have to find a level of detail we’re happy with given the layers & time that we have to put into it.

Good start, just practise, practise, practise.
Don’t be afraid to keep flipping between paintshop and track to see how it looks.
