Hasn’t anyone noticed how bad the loading screen maps are?
In many of the “Next Destination” maps the actual location of the track is completely offscreen…the “Next Destination” map for Prague for instance, in centered on a point somewhere south of Denmark, and while I’m not positive, it doesn’t look like it would even be visible…didn’t anyone Czech? (ha ha) And the “Leaving” maps are no better…the “>” arrow appears to point at Bermuda as the location of Sebring, somewhere in the middle of the Strait of Hormuz for Yaz Marina, appears to be closer to Reno, Nevada than Monterey, Califorina in the case of Laguna Seca, and locates Road America on the opposite shore of Lake Michigan, rather than Wisconsin, where it belongs. Seems like they’re consistently aimed at a point well to the east of what is correct.
These might seem like nitpicking, but the lack of attention to detail in a game which, if it were a person and you cut it, would bleed nitpicky details is troubling. Don’t Americans have enough trouble with our reputation for being indifferent to Geography at best without these kinds of errors in a AAA, multi-million dollar media product? Cue Miss Teen South Carolina.
I say this out of love, being a fan of the franchise since its inception, but these errors are simply embarrassing, and I hope its something that can easily be fixed in the next update.
Edit: Additionally, related to the loading screens, the Bugatti Circuit at LeMans is always verbally misidentified as “the iconic Circuit de la Sarthe”.
It is quite confusing, the topography lines also indicate mountain ranges of geographical oddities more akin to the moon or maybe Mars than Earth. Like HEF51 I just got to where I ignore it completely, seeing as it’s more an “Artistic Backdrop” than an accurate event map.
I dunno, I guess I thought it was worth a forum post…just as you thought it was important enough to make a post questioning its importance…if you didn’t care you could have simply let my thread pass without comment.
I guess I think Turn 10 should take more pride in their work. The kind of people I want making my racing sim would be mortified that this slipped through QA, it doesn’t reflect well on their attention to detail, and the level of effort required to have gotten it close enough to right the first time would seem to me to be minimal. However, I’m sure the demands and time constraints involved in getting the game ready for launch were extreme…so I can see how something like this slipped by. Its still pretty messed up.
Unimportant response to an unimportant topic, so it equals out, doesn’t it?
To be honest with you, yes this is a non-issue.
I couldn’t care less about loading screens and as IceMan PJN said above me, it seems like you’ve been misjudging the whole thing.
I want the people making my racing sim to focus on what’s important, the cars, tracks, gameplay and not stuff like loading screens.
The attention to detail is there where it matters.
I just checked and this is a non-issue. No arrows point to the track locations on maps. They point to things displayed on the screen while a map is in the background. At Road America, it pointed at the name of the track rather than at its location on the map. Take away the map but leave the text and the arrow would be pointing at the text. On a different screen there was a big picture from a track and the arrow pointed at the picture. Nowhere did anything say it points at a location on the map. You just assumed it did.
