I don’t really understand the point of playing career mode, when I can just play free mode and choose any car or track and race that way. I don’t usually play online so I mostly play free play and almost never career. So is there any reason to play career mode, when I can just use free mode to make any race I want and still make money?
I like playing on career because they’re harder than the Drivatars on free mode. Also, if I want to only race hyper cars, for example, I can only do so on career or with friends online and they aren’t always online. The most you can do in free mode is set the class and drivetrain, but that doesn’t guarantee that they’ll all be hyper cars and so forth.
I don’t really care about the extra difficulty on career mode because the ones on free play are fine. On your part about only having one type of car, that was the only reason I could think of for doing career mode. I was wondering if there is any extra things in career mode that makes it better than free play though.
If there drivertards are harder in career why would you not want to play it, isn’t the whole point to challenge yourself and become better instead of being stuck in a rut doing the same thing?
It’s because the higher difficulty levels on free play are enough to keep me challenged instead of lower levels in career mode. If I was barely getting challenged by the higher difficulty levels in career mode and on free play the highest level was too easy I probably would play career mode, but right now higher difficulty levels on free play are enough to keep me challenged, so I don’t really need that extra challenge from career mode.
What was the point of your thread? Seems pointless. So you don’t play career. On many different games, people will only touch multiplayer. Same as there are people that never go online. It’s whatever man.
Play career mode to unlock various icon, titles and achievements if that’s your thing.

the drivaters are the reason cause they drive so cool except you have a bad connection!!! lol no. thats the Point forza was never a big singleplayer game. no Story nothing you could identify with. just short races in different classes. so i allways see it as multiplayergame and still dont understand that turn10 didnt see more important Features to integrate than the drivaters.
I think the point of his thread is to find out of he is missing out on something by not doing career mode.
And he is not.
IMO

Agreed. I wish there was more to it outside of grinding for the achievements. I liked in FM2 if you won the championship, you won a car. In this game you get credits - lame.
I like the “enforced” restrictions on career events, makes you think about driving different types of car.
I’m not sure if you’re bothered about achievements but aren’t there some for career mode, I’m not too sure myself, never checked cos I’m not a G (do not attempt to avoid the word filter - sf)
I’ve always wondered what the point of free play really was. If not for the achievements for running races in free play, I probably wouldn’t have ever run a free play race at all. As it stands, because it starts you at the front of the pack in free play, I set up races required to get achievements as hot lap sessions. I prefer career mode over free play. I like the challenge of building cars of a particular type to a restricted class. It also serves to diversify my fleet of cars I use in multiplayer.
The point of my post, apparently everyone’s playing desires are different. I struggle to see the point in randomly defining a race myself in which I always start at the front.
Aside from the already mentioned achievements, I would say maybe the fact that it forces you out of your comfort zone and makes you try all sorts of different cars. Most likely, I wouldn’t have touched the open wheel cars or other stuff like the Ariel Atom if not for career.
Whether or not that is a plus is up to you. At the time, I didn’t like having to spend money on cars that I didn’t like just to complete a career circuit. But, in hindsight with $31 million in the account, it wasn’t a problem.
It’s really about what makes you happy. Play the game the way you enjoy it.

I never found one. And in FM5 they wouldn’t let me out until I dug a tunnel with a rusty teaspoon.
I’d say there are two reasons to play Career Mode:
-
If you like it (obviously, won’t apply to everyone).
-
If you are new to the game. We tend to forget that there are people (lots of 'em) who never played a Forza game before FM5. Going through Career mode can be a nice way to learn how to drive, and to learn about different types of cars. Sure, you can do that in Free Play also, but (as one or two others have commented) Career Mode ‘forces’ you to choose different cars.

Turn 10 did not do such a good job with the force you to pick another car in career mode. They should have posted the restrictions on the races instead of giving you the sorry your car is not eligible message. It is nice that there are spec races but post them please so we can prep a car before trying to start the race!
Forza Motorsport 5’s career mode is definitely lacking and sure could use some sort of incentive system to make it more appealing in future Forza Motorsport titles. I don’t know about you all, but these collections of 10 events for one championship and then 5 to 7 bonus events just hasn’t been enjoyable. If they divvy that up, make 100-some race events that are three to five events in length, therefore offering a greater variety of race types for specific vehicles or car styles and, then, devise an improved reward system (car, credits or otherwise), the career mode would feel less like a tedious grind and more like a worthwhile single-player exerience.
The way it is arranged right now, career mode just isn’t enthralling enough to make its completion a task worth feeling all that great about.

It might seem strange but I rather liked the Event List in FM4 and after going through the Worl Tour career feature one time, I never went back to it even on later playthroughs. I always simply played the event list if I was not online or in free play. The event list had a good variety of cars that you had to use and it felt like a good percentage of the available cars was sampled. I feel that the career in FM5 does not offer as much variety as I have, so far, been able to do most of it in only three manufacturers (the top half of the leagues).
I think that career is fun though, with a couple things I don’t enjoy but that has more to do with track selection, and it’s a great way to build experience in various fields. In free play you always start first. If you do a custom lobby and have the highest PI you also start first. In career you start in the back, have to race through traffic and you get the chance to experiment with different vehicles (within a class), different builds, and tuning. For people who are new to Forza this can be a great way to learn a lot about the game in one place.
For anyone who wants the career event restrictions to prep before going through the menus, here’s the list:
