Hello,
Just wondering if I should be using just manual and not manual with clutch with the Indy cars around Long Beach. Basically what’s happening is when I slow down for the last corner on Long Beach the car stalls! I’ve tried keeping the revs up but it’s almost near impossible sometimes if you don’t take the corner at the correct angle.
So is this because of driving with clutch? Or does it need a tune to avoid this?
thanks,
Either change the gear ratio or get another tune setup that has the correct gearing.
you dont need to run clutch with the x class cars. they will shift faster without clutch because you cant push the buttons faster than it shifts
it also depends on how you take the turn, a wider line is better and you should get on the throttle as soon as possible. With the right tune the problem is for sure less frequent, however using manual without clutch makes the moment of stall shorter if you don’t take the turn properly
I was messing around with the bone stock Verizon Indy Car for a little last night and I discovered a few things…
- If you run the manual with clutch, you can NOT run TCS or the car will stall in the last turn and not be able to build rpms without the TCS stalling the engine.
- (No TCS) You can run manual with clutch and do a little “clutch kick” as you exit the hairpin once the car is nearly out of the turn then modulate the throttle to minimize wheel spin as you exit. (This is my preferred method).
- If you must use TCS or no clutch, simply shorten first and second gear (possibly third, just a little to smooth out the gaps) on the car and you should be fine.

Tuned my own and the gears. I don’t have this problem.
Thanks everyone for your help. And Satnite - thanks for the details of your tune - I’ll use that
The amount of times I’ve accidentally put into reverse at that corner.

I’ve been using inflameless (?sp?). Running W/ clutch and I’m in 1st already, brake, turn-in, coast, continuing turn and get on the throttle. It’s a bit slow in my hand getting on it out of hairpin. (Thought about trying no TCS, or just manual). But it’s pretty fast, and performs really well under braking.
But darnded if I can get past another racer with it. (Unless they slip up, because ther is so little room to get through turns and the stock cars acceleration is a bit more than I am driving in 1st gear so by the time I catch them- I’m bottlenecked at the next turn. When I do get by them. It’s on and im gone. with no mistakes- I think I was low 1:10s may be even a high 09 last night in the challenge but it doesn’t say. But having done the rivals prior. I’m guessing it was in that area.
I knew I was fast. Those two laps. Really fast. (Most my laps are 12-13 ish in it messing up the roundabout, occasional wall taps, etc.
