In Focus 7-9-14

Up this week we have a Forzatographer who’s a personal favourite of mine and someone who I’ve been hoping to feature for a while now. If you enter our regular weekly photo contests on the forums then you’ll probably know that this guy is a regular on the winners podium with his stunning entries… It’s Morc 57!

We also have a great video from JorgePinto which documents the evolution of the Nürburgring all the way from Forza Motorsport 1 to Forza Motorsport 5. It’s quite an eye-opener and really highlights just how far videogames have advanced in a relatively short space of time.

Thanks for that beautiful introduction Helios

Awesome article. Glad I was matched with Jorge! That video is very neat!

Jorge, you’ve picked a great car… one of the twins name is Enzo. Unbelievable the evolution of the car and track.

Great work!

Thank you Morc! (And Helios too of course  )

Amazing pictures, I have to say. I would like to comment more on people’s galleries, but I can stop wathing pieces of art in lots of ones, it’s really hard to pick favourites.

Also everybody, remember to check the individual videos at the end of the main one, so you can have a detailed look of every bit in every game

Congrats Marc, a very well deserved feature for a photographer with lots of talent. I still remember your very first shots of the F40 and the GT40 in Forza 4. Astonishing evolution since them…and I’m still amazed by that LaFerrari shot, It’s just perfect. Same for the Ford picture and the high shutter speed effect on the grass, as I wrote in your gallery… Keep it up, man…hope to see more Forza’s awesomeness from you soon!

Yep, you have been there since the beginning and I thank you. You’ve definitely helped me with your many comments and inspired me with some of your own shots.
You will of course see more from me. I’m now at about 80 FM5 pics. I guess I’ll be good for an other 5 to 8 hundred.

Morc 57 …are you also a photographer outside the Forza world?

No not really. I have a good all purpose camera. I’m trying things out just for the pleasure of it and I like shooting great pictures of my family. But like I said in the article, one day I’ll get more involved in to photography. In fact Forzatography as thought me a lot on the subject.

Well you seem to have quite the ‘Eye’ for it…very talented.

Congrats on the feature.

Thx mate!

Great article, congrats on the feature.

Thx guys!

Morc, you take some incredible photos within the game! The B/W photo of the sunlit Ferrari is a personal favorite. I was wondering how you accomplish them given the functioning of the in game camera system. I just had a couple quick questions.

  1. How do you set up each shot? When I’m trying to set up a track shot, the only way I seem to be able to do it is by watching the replay and pausing it at just the right moment. Is there a way to step the film to the right point?
  2. Do you have any tips for using effects? The photo of the BMW is at just the right level of filter.
  3. Do you take time of day into account when planning a shot?

I also loved the evolution of the Ring video that was posted. Recently I broke out FM1 and the difference to FM4 is stunning. I had heard that the next evolution in game engine functionality would revolve around texturing, environment, and light, but seeing it in action made it much more obvious. The sunlight effects in FM4 and FM5 and the crispness of the newer gen graphics really bring the track to life.

Just letting all you veterans (and others…) know that after a 7 month hiatus (blame all my old buddies being on FM5 right now) im returning to these old halls  looking forward to all the In focus and RVM i missed, and nice to see your still around helios

anyway nice shots, amzing howe lifelike the new XBONE’s engine (or whatever it is) can allow us to get these pictures to look like. but im still waiting for the rain in Horizon 2 before i start getting awestruck.

EDIT: WTH!?! D CLASS RACING LICENSE? i was A CLASS :frowning:

Thx K! About you questions I’ll try to answer the best I can:

1- I use the replay times to times But what I normally do is just pause it at that exact moment from the race. I often use test drive for photo shootings. I know now that we can’t access photomode in rivals and multiplayer of course. That’s when I’ll use the replay and skip to a moment where I think the scenery is good. There’s a few tools in the replay’s menu, have you noticed? You can skip, rewind, fast-forward. I personally pause at the beginning and use the triggers to rewind/fast-forward of even slow motion to put the car at the right spot.

2- It’s hard to say, my best tips is what I’ve mention in the article. Aperture really give’s a punch to the pictures and with different zooming levels there is lots of possibilities. BMW shot was zoomed in a bit, around 2, with aperture set at about 40. I like using low contrast and not too much exposure when I’m in the open (more when it’s covered). Other then that I try so many angles, zooms, settings. Trying different things is the key I think. Just don’t forget to focus on what exactly you wanna capture.

3- Always! The in game sunlight is amazing. When you get ready for a shot, just ask your self where is the sun. It always helps me with what kind of settings I’ll use and what spot I’ll choose.

Now go take some pictures!

Thanks a lot Luu!

Wow, this is much appreciated bro!

Welcome to the NEW forums!

Morc, I have to agree with everyone here, you always take some great in-game photos! You have been one of my favorites for sometime now and was very pleased to see you as a featured artist. It was great to see how you feel when you take certain shots along with getting to know something about you personally.

Congrats man, looking forward to seeing much more from you!

Just a little something … I was saying the only thing missing was the smell and "G"s. G force. Not gas. lol
