Prop snapping is a great feature that enables fast placement of props aligned together and rotated about each other. It’s great for building roads, fences, and for ensuring that props are aligned to the same grid (think 90 degree rotations to make square corners and straight lines).
As it exists today, the feature quickly becomes overwhelmed when many props exist in a small space, particularly when building custom race tracks and platforms. In this case, snapping either fails to work altogether, or the prop held snaps to random objects outside of the player’s camera view. As a result, snapping becomes rather bothersome. I find myself having to wildly move the camera about to get snapping to continue, then hope I can see where the prop has snapped and adjust my camera position to move the prop close enough to what I want it to snap to that it does. This is a poor experience for what feels like should be a simple action.
When few props are nearby, the snapping seems to work very well. I propose the snapping logic be updated to prioritize props within a certain visual range of the held prop, or some similar criterion that would result in a more consistent experience when many props have been placed.
I can provide video examples of this behavior if necessary, but I think it’s easy enough to reproduce.
