Im constantly put into last place in Multiplayer races now..

I now instead of steadily getting first I get wrecked behind the crowd so bad I get 5-9th…
rather annoying…

get a better tune or car. i would rather start from the rear so i can drive around the carnage rather than being the carnage that started on the poll and got used for someones brakes. then you just have to keep it on the track while everybody else overshoots the turns for the rest of lap 1 then start passing those that slow down too much keeping it on the track.

It seems to me that it never really matters where you start…most of the time you get hit, but sometimes you can escape. I don’t mind starting in the rear…let them crash in the first corner and pick a line through it and instantly in like 3rd-5th position. No biggie

in my opinion, it’s best to either start in first place or last place. if you start in first, as long as you’re fast enough you can usually avoid the first corner pileups. then, with last place, you are usually able to drive through the crash. i got my first victory after starting in last place.

The wreckage is always a huge problem in multiplayer, Often I find it a bit easier to navigate the inevitable 1st turn carnage by taking the first hard turn much much more carefully than normal. Generally speaking, watch your tail going in (Check the mirror) if you see a lot of racers directly behind you, try to navigate to the outside or cut the corner heavily to try to avoid a collision. Generally, even going very slow and incorrect into the corner might keep you out of the carnage.

When racing online it is far less about how well you take turns, its much more about being consistent, and preventing yourself from succumbing to errors made by you or others. Being conscious of your surroundings and anticipating what your opponents might do is included.

Sometimes, a very poor position on the grid gives an excellent advantage, especially if you are well versed with the car you picked. If you’re capable of always pushing a car to close what it is capable of, compared to a driver who sometimes asks more than what their driving is capable of. You’ll often do well, and sometimes they’ll be in a hedge.

Crashes happen though, and sometimes, that’s just racing.

This is the best advise. Online, one has to be very aware of all the cars in close vicinity, especially for those who race without RVM.

Biggest mistakes that I have made in the past has been in the brake zones. Following a car in front means the view is obstructed, especially the brake markers. Once you see them, it is too late. I have punted many of friends so now I let off early and secure some distance when coming up to a hard brazing zone.

Also using the RS to have quick peeks left & right does wonders. You can actually get very close to other cars (without touching and still giving enough room) because you know exactly where they are.

Very good advice.

I have also found that the crashes are a lot less since the changes to matchmaking in the latest update. In the last week I have had some of the best online racing since public “no aids” lobbies in Forza 2. But if I have had one race with a pile up I always take the first corner in the next race slow (even letting people shoot past me before the corner) knowing there is going to be carnage and just be ready to drive through it.
