I'm against upgrades. Is there a way to race stock cars?

I tried the search bar but couldn’t find anything. I love mini coopers but the JCW GP is sitting at 405 (5 points about the limit for D class). I am pretty anti-upgrades as I play Forza to experience cars as is. I would love to race a full race of a bunch of Mini GPs. Am I just stuck with time trial? Classes should be 50 points a piece not 100.

If you go into free play and don’t set a class, the opponents will use unmodified cars with a PI number close to yours. The Mini’s PI number is so low, however, that if you don’t set a class, then they’ll all use Minis too. Same with the Beetle. You might have to select “FWD only,” though.

Oops, I misread your post. That second part was referring to the '65 Mini. The first part still applies, though.

Wow that was really helpful, thank god there’s a way to race stock cars. Would be cool if you could race identical cars, but that was an appendix to what I was looking for. Thanks

Sadly, in FM5 you need Gold for this, but you can play multiplayer alone.

Go to multiplayer, start a private custom lobby. Once you can see the car you are in, move the highlight over the car and press A. The game will show you several tabs full of options where you can set so many different options for the race, including number of A, body style, drive type, PI restriction, you can even dictate the specific car that people must use.

You can still race against the AI like this, and I’ve found that at unbeatable they are quite good to race against, mostly clean, although they do make some large lunges, while swerving (and slowing down) to give you room on the straights. It helps if you don’t expect to win the race, set the grid as random with 15 AI, and you will be at or near the back, and have a good fight on your hands for something like 7+ laps on a short track

Im not against upgrades, but it would be interesting to have Multiplayer race rooms setup for only stock standard cars!

Shameless plug incoming: I frequently host events like this for the viewers of my Twitch channel. Click the signature block below, follow me on Xbox One and join in on the fun!

Occasionally there are rivals events like this. As you can see, Shadow also hosts such races. Also, as I said in the post right above you which you clearly didn’t bother to read… custom lobbies.

I think there is an option that doesn’t allow upgrades in the room settings if you host.

The only way I know if to do this is to make a private lobby and invite friends. If we could still make custom public lobbies this wouldn’t be an issue. Also would have been nice to see a stock class hopper like we had in 4. It’s really disappointing how much they have decreased what we can do online with 5 compare to 4.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more attention paid to the cars in stock form.

I personally record the times of stock cars around my favorite tracks in a notebook, but I wouldn’t mind a car-specific “stock leaderboard” or some racing action with bone stock models.

It still irks me that in order to be competitive online, I have to ruin beautiful cars with aero upgrades. (I’m mostly over it, however, and that’s why I do the notebook thing.)

I totally agree and second that.
…and aside from ruining the looks of a car with spoilers, I really dislike how ridiculous some upgrades are (no strengthening of other parts needed {800+Nm on the clutch with originally less than 100hp…riiiight), everything fits in every car and no efficiency loss at all (which is also why all power upgrades end up with too much torque gain per hp gain)}. Turn10 model the stock cars so amazingly well and then never give us a change to compete with them.

Sorry for turning this into a rant ashamed
I know it’s complaining about first world problems considering how far ahaid Turn10 is of Polyphony Digital at this moment, but still, had to let it out for once.

(PS: I want original manufacturer TCS/STM setups for cars and better torque vectoring. I want to experience exactly how a new and stock car would feel and handle.)

This; if you’re going to go through all the trouble of recreating the suspension and whatnot, then why use a generic traction control system on all cars?

And the ABS in Forza 5 is awful. It doesn’t stop the brakes from locking; it makes them lock repeatedly, which increases braking distance dramatically.
Applying the brakes all the way with ABS is like applying them halfway without it.

I can excuse the traction control because to get each cars individual parameters would take a ton of time (Forza 6 hopefully). But I cannot excuse the fact you can use a clutch on cars with Dual clutches, it shouldn’t be an option. That doesn’t require any programming besides just blacking out the option on the assists menu. I’m doing this Eau Rouge challenge and I bet the fastest time is someone who used the clutch setting. Real realistic.

Hit my xbox live up, i do the exact same thing. I love just comparing cars and can give a rats a** about LB times. I even do it in GT6 and compare those times with Forza’s.

I do miss the online production car lobby that was on Forza 4, why they didn’t add it to Forza 5 I’ll never know.

Wow… my complaint is the exact opposite. In free-play and multiplayer, they’re all stock, and I’d like to race against tuned cars. Career is the only way, but it’s ruined with the ridiculous limitations of always starting in 14th with 2-4 lap races.

If you set a class restriction in free play, the AI will use modified cars.

That’s a big negative… I selected Class A, and it just picked the 15 highest rated A class cars, all stock.

I miss cycled production. It levelled the playing field beautifully and stopped online play being about the tunes.
