IGN: Dan Greenawalt on the history and future of the Forza franchise

Hey look, another e3 and another article repeating the same rhetoric again.

Both Dan and Alan need to shut up and go back to what made FM2 good. The Racing. “Car lovers into gamers” has ruined this game beyond repair.

t’s not our features that make the fans. It’s our features that empower the player to make a fan of another player. That’s what gaming is about now. It’s not about just what we deliver; it’s about what they do with each other.”
Then why for the love of god did you go and screw the pooch… Oh right. Casuals.

I am at the point where I want to hear less visionary waffle and see more action improving and fixing the game.

I kind of lost trust in Dan when he said last year that he wasn’t a car guy. Someone who is running Turn 10 and promoting for it should be a car guy. I don’t enjoy listening to a word he says anymore. I know it seems harsh, but you can tell that Turn 10 has changed and it took the backlash of the community to get them to start getting back in check.

Hmm, this is pretty much the opposite of what I thought. Have you got a link? I believed that DG was a bit of a car nut.

Anyhow, there’s a lot of negativity in this thread I’m not sure is totally justified. Personally I miss some of the tracks that haven’t yet been scanned in to next-gen loveliness, but I appreciate some of the new ones we have. I also don’t see the need for absolutely massive lists of cars and definitely prefer that each one we have has been brought up to HD level and not simply carried over at 360 details. I lost faith with Gran Turismo after GT3 for this reason amongst others.

Yes, forza isn’t perfect but, despite its flaws, FM5 is still the best looking, best AI, best physics, best sounding, best server console racer so far. There’s still plenty of work to do to reinstate features were used to and bring new stuff too, but I’m more than happy with what’s in 5 to see us through to the next version

Forza Gotham Racing.

“But the franchise, it you track its trajectory you can see how we’ve added more and more community features over the years and that’s been kinda the wellspring of inspiration, and it’s because it ties directly to the vision of the game.”

Except for the U-turn on Forza 5?

I don’t believe he could be proud of FM5.

What bugs me the most at the moment. I still remember big speeches about “Quality over quantity” Well FM5 definitely Delivered on that front

How ever. So far I have seen lack of tracks. lack of cars (in other words lack of content) But great graphics “On lap 2 this piece of rubber which I can barely see embedded itself to my bumper” Great physics Well those were always good, not this good as they are now, but all in all good. And what I have watched on twitch, I have seen loading screens about as much as racing/painting/tuning.

Now I was looking forward to buy XBone, and FM5. but I’m glad that I was really low on money when they came out. As paying almost 600€ from the console and game, + that I need new TV as my 20 year old isn’t quite good enough. that’s 300€ more, so all together 900€ for 6-9 months worth of actual content… and half from that content is loading screens… Not really worth it.

Quality over quantity. I can understand that to certain extent. But in this kind of game, quantity is half of the quality. and in FM5 quality overshot the quantity.

Also I can see how the community, was forgotten. THE community, which made the game such a huge success in the first place. We can barely say that there is community here anymore. only the smoking ruins of it remains. Forza franchise seems to be going towards the quantity on sales for random buyers who does not care about the DLC, or how great the actual handling model is. It’s just something that you can play for couple weeks and then forget that you ever bought it. And those who once loved the series… well as there isn’t enough content, they go looking for it from somewhere else.

Now this example what I’m using here is bit off, I know… but I’m still going to use it.
Look at minecraft. That game is HUGE success, but I really don’t think that it’s success cause it has awesome graphics.

Nostalgie

This would be good news as right now the Sim is on a two year dev time…Another Forza game would push the Sim to a 3 year dev time which can only be a good thing.

We already have a Arcade orientated game with Horizon…So what about Forza Rally?

That whole interview annoyed me greatly. When he mentions things like the storefront and auction house without a single hint of irony. He truly has lost the way in regards to Forza. He said after Forza 5’s launch and the criticism that he felt disconnected from Forza fans. It seems he’s drifting further away.
It’s all well and good saying coomunity this, and community that, but when you’ve crippled the community to the point they have, it really grates. The loss of the auction house and storefront he is supposedly so proud of, has nerfed the community. Everything he says with the words community involved i now take with a 5 ton pinch of salt.
It’s so sad to see the game reduced to what it now is. Blaming cheaters is not an excuse, it should be an impetus to make the game more secure, put systems in place to stop cheats, NOT disable everything people loved about painting/sharing/selling.
RIght now i’m praying Horizon brings back some of that stuff to restore my faith in the franchise, but from what i’ve seen so far, it’s more a case of them distracting us with raindrops and clubs while not returning vital features.
