The only thing that’s really changed is how the career mode is organized and there are locked cars. You pretty much have to play career to an extent to gets some good cars and stack credits. Credits are also arent as easy to earn like in FM5 and FM6 but its not hard either. Leagues were tweaked to be about earning points to move up a tier. Leagues feature only 2 homologation races and 1 race with a car in stock form. These change weekly.
The game and online were designed around homologation. Class based racing was an afterthought. Homologation are basically divisions from FM6 with build spec criteria. The idea was to have balanced racing that class based racing can’t always provide. The results are mixed.
As result car packs don’t really matter much. Sometimes the car is fast in the homologation but the masses won’t know until that homologation lobby is added to Leagues or standard multiplayer.
There are no class based leaderboards anymore so it’s hard to determine the impact for many cars in car packs.
As of late T10 has added class based lobbies to the standard multiplayer because of high demand.
The lobbies overall have not been fixed. Vote to kick exists but is not visible so it’s basically redundant.
Do not buy the game if you’re an online only player. There’s a strong probability you will dislike the game. Most of the positive posts are from single player focused players. Generally single player is pretty damn good IMO.
I use the game in single player mode. I’m generally happy with it having played every version since the original except for FM5. I like the options for setting up AI opponents and the selection of cars in the game. The physics seem a bit different than FM4 (the cars in FM7 for the most part seem more forgiving to mistakes than in FM4). The two things that hurt the driving experience for me the most are the excessive windshield reflections on some cars and the pop-up headlights that never retract even during daytime racing. Those headlights ruin the in-car view in some cases (e.g. the Lotus Esprit).
I’m going to give a perspective of just career racing as I don’t race online.
I like the games physics as the cars feel a bit more connected to the road and don’t slop around like in FM5. I like that the game will take a long time to finish if you don’t spend your entire day every day playing it and I like the fact that it still has some hidden cars that can be achieved from level ups and forzathons and loot crates (maybe…). However that last part is a bit of a double edged sword as I am only around level 180 wish and many others are in the 300-400s and still haven’t gotten some cars that are still locked so that really is a huge issue. These locked cars need to become available through rewards in the game and not from online play (championships and the like) I really hate that as I hate having to have a Gold membership to get stuff from my game that I paid for already.
I feel like I haven’t spent as much time in FM7 like I did with FM6 and FM4. It’s so close to being so good but still far away. I still play it and it’s still got good qualities so maybe buy a disk and try it out and if you hate it? Return it.
Honestly if you’ve waited this long I’d wait until the first major DLC is released. I remember some significant improvements to the base game in 6 when it was updated for the Nascar DLC.
Whether it’s helpful or not, from my experience of having played every iteration of Forza, it’s pretty much a toss-up.
Pros:
-Awesome graphics, especially if you’re playing XB1X + 4k, best in the series by far.
-Same Forza feel, if you’ve enjoyed the physics/car behavior in previous FM games you’ll feel right at home in this one.
-Car customization is better than any in the series.
-Career Mode is better than previous games, still not great but was more enjoyable for me in most aspects. See below though on the fake AI performance in single-player, one of my biggest gripes about FM7.
Cons:
-Multiplayer is still absolutely horrible, you’ll just get rammed off in turn 1 90% of the races you play.
-Multiplayer races are too short, unless you play the Endurance GT hopper. Want to play some S class racing? Hop into the lobby, get rammed off in turn 1, then be content finishing in the back of the pack because it’s only a 2 lap race.
-Multiplayer CR payout is awful, can make more CR in ONE career race with mods than I can in 2-3 hours of MP racing.
-Can’t use drivatars in hosted lobbies, so if you and a handful of friends want to race and fill up the rest of the slots with AI, well too bad.
-Multiplayer connection is still kind of crap. Can go on a run of 2-3 days without getting “connection failed” or being kicked in the middle of a race, to being kicked constantly or can’t connect to lobbies at all the next day.
-Fake AI performance in single-player mode. No matter what difficulty you play on and how good you are, when the game coding wants the AI to be faster than you, they will be.
Honestly, if I wasn’t good at the game and was just an average player, I would have asked for a refund a while back. I can avoid the turn 1 crash-fest in most of the online races I play, but I also think there’s less riff-raff in the Endurance GT hopper (the only one I play online) so that probably helps. That and when I do get punted off, at least the races are roughly 20-22 min long so there’s time to recover for a top 5 finish. I only play the Endurance hopper because other hoppers the races are just too damn short for the amount of accidents you’ll be getting into or trying to avoid, have run into numerous players who just go in and ram people for fun.
If you’re interested in a better than average single player experience, I’d say buy it. If you’re interested in good, fun online racing…pass. Invest your money in a PS4 and GT Sport, they at least make an attempt at cleaning up online racing, and seems to work ok most of the time.
I bought FM7 cause I liked Fm6 multiplayer…
Once I rushed the career I only played and still play multiplayer every day for 1 or 2 hours with modern hot hatch when I am not buisy with a custom championship with my friends.
Now I’m lvl 43 collector without putting any effort to achieve it.
I think I can definitely say yes, you should buy it.
I know that many people can’t splash out on every title that hits the shelves and perhaps have to do a little digging to try to ensure the games they buy provide a decent number of hours entertainment.
But, 6 months after launch you really should by now know if you’re going to pick up a copy or not. It’s pointless asking on a forum because you only have people that really like the game and haters hanging around so the responses will always be predictably extreme.
I bought the game because of the content. But it is for me not as fun to drive as GT Sport, Assetto Corsa or PCars 2. I just dont like how the game handles with the controller.
Forza looks and sounds better than AC or PCars2 (while i think its worse or on par with GT Sport on the Pro, despite native 4k), but when i dont get the same ‘fun’ while racing, then its clearly not ‘my game’. Its just nice to have it in the collection.
If you like to play games that immerse you more in the racing and dont care so much about certain cars or tracks, then i would not recommend FM7.
If you like more arcadey feeling phyiscs and just want to throw some well known cars around well known circuits and looking nice while doing so but still feel more simulation than real arcade games (like NFS or FH3) then FM7 is for you.
What is the point of this thread?
The OP clearly doesn’t like Forza games anymore and every negative thing mentioned on the hundreds of other threads is just being repeated ad infinitum. Don’t people get bored typing the same thing on the forum over and over? Just go buy GT Sport if Forza is soo bad.
But what if you like certain aspects of Forza more and would rather play it if only these things that bother you would be changed?
Nothing wrong with repeating stuff, its called: to make sure your voice is heard. Sometimes saying once or twice does not do.
As long as its done in a manner according to forum guidelines, i dont see why you would want to call someone out for repeating stuff.
Its not like people are called out when they repeat the positive stuff.
Also it would not hurt if Turn10 would actually signal that they hear us complaining about stuff. But they dont. They either fix it or do nothing.
A roadmap or something like that would be nice. Then i would also stop repeating because i know: They know.
The point is if you don’t like as you stated then change game, you already have stated there are titles you like more, why change something that other people like?
A quick look around these forums as well as a search on google will show more times than not that many people dont like the changes made by turn 10. So while you may like the game and would recommend it, there are many people with a different opinion on the matter and their opinion is just as valid as yours. No one should have to justify why they feel one way or the other.
That number doesn’t show anything. Most of that time the game might have been in idle (most of my playing time probably consists of game sitting in a alt+tabbed state). What matters is the in game statistics (time spent racing, tuning etc).
Xbox app on computer or xbox.com (your profile->choose a game->achievements). There is probably similar way on the console as well, but I’m too lazy at the moment to check.
