Hi been hearing more about hot lap cars how are they set up? I know every car is different. But is there a generalized setup ?
There is no general setup. Some hot lap features require homologated parts, some require stock, etc…

Check out the HLR HLCs and you will experience the setup and driving of hot lapping like crazy, while having a ton of fun. Majority of Drivers that are involved build & tune & share.

Nope. A hotlap car is designed for one track only. It’s is common for a hotlap car to do very well on many other tracks though.
There are tricks of the trade to avoid waisting PI. In addition a hot lap car may not be the prettiest thing to look at after upgrades.
Taking part in HLR’s hot lap thread will shed light on your building mistakes.
To add to what swerve said sometimes hot lap cars are not exactly easy to drive as you may put a little more power into them and sacrafice grip for a few extra tenths lap times. So while they may be very fast, they are harder to be consistent in and unless very skilled many of them are not driven in lobbies, or they are and everyone dies.
I would tend to disagree with this! It all depends on the particular track being hot-lapped. In many (actually majority) of our HLCs, the Drivers have preferred grip over power.

I tend to see the top drivers in lobbies, at least B and A, running accel/speed builds to get it in front and avoid the chaos behind. And then they still drop awesome times trusting their driving skill to stay out in front.
That being said, sometimes even grippy hot lap cars can be squirrelly to take full advantage of the grip and not the kind of car you’d want bumped in a lobby.
