Horizon Play rank up way to slow

The ranking up system in Horizon Play needs nerfing big time. I logged on this morning decided to do a bit of racing and I was on average the middle to the top of the field and after just over 1 and a half hours of racing I leveled up 4 times! From 10 to 14…seriously and yet there an achievement for getting to level 100 as much as I’m really enjoying this game I’m not willing to spend what could be a hundred hours plus to get an achievement. Madness! does anyone agree with me? thanks to anyone that reads this have a nice day.

There’s been some discussion about this over on TrueAchievements…

If only it was only 100 hours mate, someone worked out a rough estimate based on how ESV Mars has done in Spec Racing and in it’s current state it’s closer to 1000.

1000 hours is crazy I hope they make easier in an update or something

I’ve been very vocal about this online (annoyingly so, apologies), but it’s absolutely mental. This was a 5-6 hour achievement in FH5. This could easily be 1,000 hours which would be longer than getting all achievements FH3, FH4, FH5 and FH6 (bar this achievement). I still cannot believe the XP rate in the final product was intentional, and if so, it’s a major, major oversight. Even for the biggest of enthusiasts it’s crazy. They either need to adjust the achievement to Level 25 or greatly reduce the XP required. For in-game badges I’d somewhat get it for the absolute psychos out there, for achievements, this is unprecedented for Forza Horizon. It would be nice if Playground could confirm if this is actually intended or not, they haven’t said a word about it yet.

It most definitely feels slow. I think I have maybe 20 hours in online play and I’m not even up to level 30. That’s less than a level per hour. I probably need another 50 hours to reach level 100, if you start from zero, 60-70 hours to get to 100.

You need a lot, lot more than 50 hours currently.

This is exactly what I mean! I decided the morning to get level 25 to unlock the 918 thankfully I’ve got some time off work, I was level 10 this morning started at 9am and apart from half an hour at lunch, half an hour at dinner and 5 mins to put up this post I’ve just got to 25 and it’s 10pm so 10 hours none stop for 15 levels… absolute joke!

Anyone know where to see how much time you’ve spent in Horizon Racing? It’s not in the online tab, only hide n seek and eliminator.

This is really an insane grind. I just raced about 3 h 15 min Spec Racing and I was mainly in the top 3 and I received 312,014 XP. And for this amount of XP I ranked up from Rank 33 to Rank 34.5 only (about 1.5 ranks)!

My question is, is there a difference between the experience gained in a full lobby (let’s say 12 people) and a lobby of 2-3-4 people? (assuming that in the first and second cases you always go to 1-2-3 in the race?

That’s a very good question but they never give us the breakdown of those types of things. At the very least you’ll have to spend 150 hours in multiplayer. I’m at 75 hours and I’m still not to level 50. Each level is multipled by 10K XP. Level 50 will take 500K to reach level 51 and so on up to level 100.

I just played a round of Eliminator, only the second time I tried it since I got the game. Most of the time I was unable to challenge other players - this is an intermittent bug dating back to FH4. Then I got to a car drop which I couldn’t collect. Kept pressing the button to collect it but nothing. Then I got challenged and lost, finished 12th. Back to free roam, didn’t even see the XP bar for Horizon Play going up but I assume I earned something? Who knows. This game is so half baked.

Races are copy and pasted from FH5. It still puts you in a lobby where the race has started and all you can do is wait for several minutes. Long loading times and delays. Starting grid still randomised so you can finish one race first but then you could start last for the next one. Three races where you could have two sprints needing a sprint tune but one is a tight circuit so the sprint tune isn’t competitive.

I see not only does the game not track your race wins, it doesn’t even show them in the seasonal leaderboard if you do custom races, ie. if you choose to just do road races rather than dirt and cross country. I cannot understand the mentality behind removing basic stuff which used to be in previous FH games.

so far no any feedback from devs? I am level 34 now. I starting feel the slowness of leveling up… back in FH5, I am probably level 300 already

I got to rank 25 and am going to leave it there until the levelling up is fixed. A more reasonable time should be 50 hours to get from level 1 to 100

Your last two paragraphs are two of my main irritations with Multiplayer. Why put us into a “waiting lobby” where we can’t do anything but drive around? Just leave me in the main game until it’s time for me to join - or at least give that option. I can then prepare a car or auction hunt to fill that time (or do something else in game). In the absence of a ranking system, tracking race wins would also be of interest to me and I used to do so in FH4 (where there was a publicly shown list of wins that month).

The latter point is no doubt due to the mentality that they don’t want the game to actually be competitive. Having a competitive game, means more complaints about ramming etc which woold need to be dealt with. It’s a real shame though because the lack of a ranked mode, or any real way to show progress (even to the extent of the rating in FM which isn’t shown publicly - I thought they’d copy that across), takes away a lot of depth from the end game content.

Glad to have found this topic now… I’ve been poking at the drift events since it’s one of the few options which feels non-competitive to me and leveling up has been slow. I just want the Porsche 918, darnit! Thinking I’ll go back to my original idea of just buying one, nuts to this.

Getting the Porsche isn’t too bad. That’s a few hours multiplayer. It’s once you get past that point and want to reach L100 for the achievement that it then increases exponentially. Each level becomes more and more work to obtain.

Hi everyone,

I am writing this because the XP progression system in Horizon Open feels completely unbalanced. I am currently only at level 24, and the game is already asking me for over 32,000 XP just to reach the next level.

The requirements are way too high so early on, and it makes the multiplayer experience incredibly stressful and frustrating instead of fun. Most players just want to enjoy the online races or go for the achievements without feeling burnt out by an endless grind.

Playground Games needs to patch this. They should either lower the XP requirements for the online levels or significantly buff the XP rewards for completing championships. Is anyone else struggling with this progression system?
