100% agree with this post. The Horizon Open experience is garbage through and through. Can’t choose race type or class, can’t join a NEW event, more often than not you get tossed into one that’s already in progress or ending, which means you cannot POSSIBLY win, no matter how hard you try. Then the event type switches and whatever car you just chose is no longer valid. Rammers get no penalties, and god forbid even if you’re in 3rd to last place you dare race a clean lap because some idiot will ram you out of spite. The network connectivity is absolute CRAP in this game. I have zero issues with any other game, including FH4 - but FH5 I get CONSTANT network errors or poor network warnings, so sometimes the event you’re participating in just stops as a result. I could do a speed test side by side while running the game and get great network results…so I KNOW it’s not me.
Everything about this experience is a mess, and in fact basically anything other than free roam is a hot garbage experience in this game. I could understand these issues happening during the holidays, but it’s well after that and the list of “known issues” in this game, including game breaking bugs is still ENORMOUS. It’s pathetic. These developers should be embarrassed at how crappy this game is, and honestly every car MFR they have deals with should be considering not giving them licensing for the next iteration until they can show they won’t make the next version such garbage. This is just pathetic.
I could FEEL what OP said and the frustration open racing brings to him. I feel the very same and the reason why open racing is so badly designed is beyond my understanding.
THANK YOU OP! It seems to me this is a huge problem we are ALL dealing with! FIX IT SOONER THAN NEVER! The game could be so good…yet the obvious is crippling it…horrendously!
I feel with you. I’ve trying to play a full Horizon Open event for a few days now. Keep getting added to games already in progress. What’s the point if you have a weekly challenge to win a Horizon Open event / race.
OP and pertaining to the voting system. No it’s not unfair to rally-esque/off road players.
If the lobby as a collective and your own individual input decides the type of racing, then that ultimately is a much fairer way then having a roulette spin of a matchmaking system in which you have 0% say on what will come up.
Bumping this topic because it’s still very much relevant.
Personally I haven’t had major issues with rammers or the players, but the endless wait times, constant joining and leaving lobbies because I can’t choose what types of race I want to queue, and being put into lobbies that have already ended or are at the last race is getting extremely frustrating.
Not to mention when you literally join the lobby BEFORE the next race starts, ready and waiting with a selected car at the designated location for minutes at times, “Waiting for players to get ready”, and then you’re not included in it for whatever reason because you happened to join a second too late.
I don’t understand how it isn’t a bigger priority to fix this. I love this game overall and especially online racing when I get to play the race types and performance classes I like, but this is making me want to quit.
Worth noting that this is, in fact, getting an overhaul for Season 6, as mentioned in the last update video. We’ll be able to choose which race types we want, and there’ll be a number of QOL fixes for it too.
I wish the developers see this because you are so on point with everything you’ve written.
It took me 10/15 minutes to get in to an S2 class road race, only to sit there for 5 minutes whilst race was in progress which was the final race and then an B class cross country race came up so had to wait another 10 mins getting an S2 race again.
FORZA HORIZON 5 DEVELOPERS BRING BACK CUSTOM ADVENTURE OPTION so we have the choice to choose what kind of race we want to do because this system is absolute sewage.
This - this right here is crazy. I don’t know why they do this. Just queue me up for the next one, but let me free-roam/do offline racing until it’s time.
Exactly. In FH2/3 online Freeroam you could vote on three different race types. You saw in real time everyone’s preference, and the winning event type was what you all raced. And only a single person ever wanted cross country. Stop forcing us to play it. What sort of analytic decisions are they making where they go “hmm.. data shows us no one ever votes for this event, so we’ll randomise it to force players in to it”. It’s like Netflix making unpopular shows mandatory to watch.
Also, just publish the timetable in-game (fan-made ones have already been created but they’re on social media) so everyone knows what is up next. Don’t hide it.
Good suggestions here. I agree with the frustration shown by the author as well. We spend hours waiting for forza to allocate us to races. Wait Times and game stability has improved in recent weeks.
I also agree that i play forza for S2 road and street races. I am ok with S1 races. I never want to play A, B, CD class races - they are all too slow and boring
In addition to all of the complaints listed above, which I 100% second, what is up with how the game boosts / slows down other racers?
Either players are cheating the game with hacked vehicles, or the game is intentionally nerfing the performance of MY vehicles to make the race 10 times more difficult.
For example, I can race with a top of class car, optimized for top speed and acceleration, and all other cars in the pack will walk away from me like I’m riding the brakes. The only way I’m getting out of 10th place is if someone crashes – and no other cars seem to be slowed down by hitting walls, but of course if I barely tap one I get the slow down penalty.
I don’t mind racing against players who are flat out better drivers than I am. But there’s NO WAY all of the other cars have top speeds so much higher than mine that I can’t even catch up on a straight line of track. And when I see the other players not slowed down AT ALL from collisions, then either something is broken in the mechanics of the race, or the game is broken by allowing cheaters to somehow bypass the class and slow down rules.
Whichever it is, it’s not worth waiting for 10-15 minutes to actually get into a race, only to have zero chance of winning, or even placing, no matter how well you drive.
I’m thinking that this will be the last dime Playground Games gets out of me for a Horizon game unless they can prove they’ve fixed the many, many, many flaws, bugs, and cheat exploits that run rampant in the series.
All said - totally agree. I can beat unbeatables in the trial yet, when in other online races - even just with mates - I’m always miles behind. Just seems something just isn’t quite right. Thought it was the wheel when they’re using controllers but a couple have also recently switched to wheel and it’s still the same issue.
The main issue for me is that it’s using up tuning spaces for no reason - like in FH4 - constantly have to delete a tune just to get another because the saves are full up.
Just hope they’ve increased the tune limits to counteract this.
