Help with tunes for older cars

Hey all, any help would be appreciated. I am having trouble tuning older vehicles for handling. My Nissan Datsun 510, VW Beetle and Merc SLR300 all have the same issue, which is a steering ‘drift’ when in a straight line, the cars drift or wobble off line, and a slight steering adjustment send the drift/wobble the other way. I have tried various adjustments but only seem to make it degrees worse or better without eliminating it. I use the same set up basically that I use on all my C class tunes, to reduce understeer and have a good handling and high acceleration vehicle:

Sport gears, Race shocks negative camber front and back (-0.7/-0.5 or less), Negative front toe positive back (-2.0/+1.0), high steering rack angle (5.7 to 6) high damping (9.5/9.6) low rebound (1.5/1.6), stiff front and rear springs, front less so than back, and same with stabilisers.

This method works really well with all my other tunes generally, and is a good ‘default’ starting point, but not with the older cars, can’t work out where I’m going wrong …

If those toe numbers are right then yeah I’m surprised you can keep it on the road. Set them both to zero and leave them there.

Raise the ride height until it stops.

I’ll try that for sure, thanks.

Get rid of the toe like Foot said. Those numbers are just plain silly and are never going to end well.

Thanks BIGPoppaKEGDog, it was the ride height, and now my 510 is handling like it’s on rails. LOL though, I meant 0.1/0.2 not 1.0/2.0 for the toe, so to the other guys, although I do appreciate your thoughts and suggestions, the toe setup can add that little something extra to a tune - there is nothing wrong with a very (and I mean VERY) small toe adjustment ± 0.1 or 0.2 depending on the car and suspension setup and the track. Thanks again, and happy days, as I love racing the older models! Out of interest, I also softened the anti-roll and springs, which in combination with the other settings worked wonders. Cheers everyone, and again, a bit of a quiet chuckle at my typo! : )
