A couple weeks ago I had the chance to tour The LeMay Museum America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, WA. I got a VIP tour from the chief curator and learned a tremendous amount of details about how and why the museum is run.
In turn this led to research about the founding contributor Harold LeMay who at one time owned 3,500 cars and held the Guinness Book of World Records spot for largest car collection. He was a man with an amazing love of cars and this week’s HMA tells his story and that of the LeMay Museum.
In addition to the story you can view an album on our Facebook page. Forza Motorsport
I hope you enjoy it, it has been one of my favorite pieces to write about.
I have been meaning to go there for quite a while… after reading this article, I have no excuses. I am going to check out the website and go ASAP. Thanks for a great article… I wonder if Turn 10 had a chance to laser scan some exhibits? ; )
That’s a fantastic piece!!! I haven’t heard of that museum, but if I ever get to WA, I’m making a stop there. The pics of the DeTomaso Mangusta and the Tucker are personal faves.

That museum is gorgeous! The artistry in the architecture as well as the placement of the vehicles is astounding. Of course the cars are incredible too. Thanks for sharing!
Now thats a big car collection ! I would really love to spend time on that museum too bad i live on Europe. That blue Tucker really got my attention it’s such an art masterpiece. Every single car in the museum is art after all isn’t it? Thanks really appreciate the tour and the pictures!

Hi John. A lovely museum, congratulations to Mr. Le May for the passion he has had in years. I love the collection Volkswagen, Herbie is the guest star.
I saw the album on Facebook - there’s some sweet (and interesting!) rides there! Did I see a Tucker of some sort, with the steerable centre headlight ( got to admit, it was a quick look and I didn’t read the comments!).
That is definately a place where I could never take my gf. I would be drooling and she would be ready to be home before we left the drive way. Sounds like future road trip planned
Great article, that is definitely a place I would like to visit someday. Since I grew up in Germany I especially like the the last picture in the article and your personal pictures that feature all those vintage VW’s.

I bet you were in VW Heaven there John. That was probably my favorite HMA to read. One doesn’t have to be a VW fan or even a car fan to enjoy the history that undoubtedly flows through the museum. Cars are a part of American history and to have so much diversity under one roof is just complete beauty. Great read this week! This will definitely be placed high on the bucket list of places to visit. Cheers!
I see karman’s I see beetles I see camper and all sorts of wonderful things what a place. Don’t get many place’s like this in the UK but going to london in April and they have the classic car museum that is full of joy full things and they have there very own bat cave :o
