Get ready to rollout with this Transformer-themed Magnum. Meet “Rodimus” his sworn duty is to thrash tires and give European rides something to worry about.
If you can make a case for why wagons have fallen by the wayside do so in a smartly worded post. Or tell me what your favorite wagon is and why.
See you in the thread.
By the way, I may be a wagon owner again soon, I’m considering picking up a Saab 900 Turbo wagon for my loving lady, who was crashed into last night. Her car is totalled but she is mostly ok.
First of all, we are glad that Ms. johnniwanna is doing well because she has had the scare of his life when we see the Vitara! By against a Saab? you are sure of your choice or search by the bias of a panel of HMA vehicle to replace the Suzuki?
The “wagon” or “break candy” as we say are not completely fall into oblivion, many manufacturers such as Volvo have done a very good workhorse like models 144/244 or closer us with the new V60, allowed fathers to take their children on the road with confidence.
But although these famous “wagon” that are lost over time meandering and other 4x4 SUV more or less luxurious for years, manufacturers have revised their copies out of the box, giving preparers hands like as Alpina BMW B3 with the full transmission with over 400ch under the hood! the Ingolstadt side with the series before Audi RS version of how especially Quattro Gmbh and Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the “shooting brake”.
Here we realize that the manufacturers have realized the nature of this type of vehicle was also consistent for the solo performance of a good father who will go for his loaf of bread as well as for the welfare of his family since the technologies on board this vehicle class can only appeal to moms seeking perpetual security although from time to time when it is alone behind the wheel, the desire to see what a car with sensations can give!. But shhh, do not tell …
The sporting character so attractive, Porsche, Ferrari have understood very well because if we move away a little of the “wagon”, the FF and the base Panamera are the famous family car but only one easy category saw the price one of these vehicles!.
Nowadays so “break” did not finish the edge of the road, they just find another golf shrine as highways by their performance, less expensive fossil fuel consumption by their Cd (coefficient of air penetration) against 4x4s and SUVs which are themselves excessive energy consumption.
In contrast to low-income families are more turn on the minivan and SUV category economically as meeting the same standards of comfort and safety compared with new “wagon” with more cavalry under the hood ! .
I’m glad your wife is O.K. John. Are you sure you want to replace her vehicle with a Saab though?
In response to the questions in the HMA article, I love wagons. Just look down at my signature. I really enjoyed reading this weeks HMA, it was inspiring. My very first car was a rebuild of a pretty beat up Subaru Legacy Wagon that, sadly was stolen, but lived on for 200,000 miles after the rebuild. It only took the police little over 16 months to find it, so unfortunately I had a different car by then out of necessity. I now drive an Audi A4 Avant which fell into my lap. At the time I owned an Audi S6 and went to a dealer looking to buy my wife a car, instead, I saw the wagon and came home with it because Wagon!!!
There are more A4 Avants where I live than anywhere else in California. I’ve now seen my fair share of Acura TSX wagons and Mazda 6 Wagons arounds town. There has even been one TLX wagon driving around. I tend to favor the European variety but it’s refreshing to see the Japanese models gain a little bit of popularity around town. I only wish that American manufacturers would join the party. My in-laws always want me to buy an American car and I tell them, until the Americans build a good wagon, I’m not into it. I know the Magnum is there, but for me, it’s too much work and I don’t have the money to make it work like Woods did. Speaking of American wagons another car that I would love but would realistically be too much work at this time is the Chevy Nova Wagon. One day though, either one of those might be a possibility. Too many cars, not enough money - what a dilemma…
According to my mother-in-law, outside of the car enthusiast world, most Americans dislike wagons because of the image. After growing up with them in the 70s and early 80s it’s not something she’d like to go back to. Most people it seems, agree, and would rather buy an SUV than a wagon. Even a cross over is preferred to a wagon as can be seen by car sales. Subaru does still sell the Outback wagon, but they replaced the Impreza Sport Wagon with the “crossover” and it worked. Audi also couldn’t sell as many A4 wagons when compared to the rest of their lineup so they stopped making the “A4 Avant”. They gave it some plastic parts called it the new AllRoad model and ran it as a “crossover” and people jumped on it. Sales for a three month period tripled when compared to he past year. Perhaps, it’s not the car that people dislike but the term “station wagon” itself - if wagons continue to sell but are simply labeled crossovers, would that be too much of a bad thing?
Super glad everyone is mostly ok… definitely could have been worse!
Cars can at least thankfully be replaced… people can’t! (a subject close to my heart)
On wagons… my daily driver up until last year was a 2005 Outback XT Turbo, I really loved it, I definitely miss being able to carry a large amount of things around in it. The all wheel drive was amaing for bad weather and a bonus, you could off road with it! Not too many wagons can boast that, so for that reason, it’s always going to be one of my favorite wagons. I miss it in a lot of ways…
11 months ago, I bought something far less pratical and fun…
more about that in some other on topic thread or pm!
I can’t say exactly why the wagons have fallen out of favor, I have to think at least in part, there must be a perception by the car buying public and manufacturs, that ‘wagons are not cool’ and wagons are not fun to drive. We can clearly see Alfonzo Woods clearly disagree’s, with good reason, that SRT8 Kicks some serious butt! It’s like the best of two worlds, crazy horse power and fun, and when you need it, a family car you can haul your camping gear in.
Fantastic HMA, as always, I am sadly, a year plus behind in any reading or the magic of Forza anything…
I just picked up XBox One Friday night, and loaded up FM5, so guess I a back
insert high pitched girlish squeal of delight here
So, let me star this by saying I’m glad to hear that everyone is okay after the accident. Those are all kinds of no fun and I unfortunately speak from too much personal experience on the matter.
Moving on to this weeks HMA;
OMG YOU DID AN ARTICLE ON A DODGE MAGNUM!!11!11!!! I cannot tell you how excited this makes me as my car is a 2007 model, though unfortunately I was not able to get a SRT8 model, and I find it incredibly enjoyable. I wish Dodge, or maybe Ram now, would bring this beauty back as I would love to update mine! Wagons here state side just seem to not exist in forms like this outside of the Luxury brands. Thank you for sharing Mr. Woods incredible looking and sounding Rodimus. Makes all of us wagon owners proud!
Perhaps, maybe one day, we can see the Magnum in a Forza game? That would truly make me the happiest man on the planet!
I like the blacked out bumper bit on the magnum it looks better than the stock front end look.
Last time i saw a dodge magnum had to of been well over 5 years ago. I guess they are getting to be less common.
