Gamepad steering delay and Gamepad vs wheel

I’m having a weird issue with Forza games. On PC with my Logitech F310 gamepad, I’m getting almost a half second delay between hitting the stick and the car actually turning. It’s bad enough that, instead of modulating the steering, I find myself using the binary method of “smash the steering to 100% and release”, which is literally keyboard level. I bought one of the Forza Motorsports games and ultimately couldn’t play it because of this and the precision required in a sim. I beat everything in FH3 with it except for drifting because drifting is just impossible. When I pan the camera around and turn, there’s a very substantial delay and the wheels turn much slower than I’m moving the stick. Not sure if it’s just a graphics thing, but it looks like there’s something simply preventing the steering from turning faster to match my stick position. I’m noticing this exact pattern in FH4 too (just bought yesterday) and I’m sick of it. Why does this happen in ALL of my Forza games and NONE of my other games (The Crew, TrackMania, The Crew 2, Asphalt 8 etc…)? I’ve already set the dead zone to 0 and it’s made no difference.

Potentially along similar lines, what does anyone thing about a wheel vs gamepad. I feel like a decent wheel with good force feedback would particularly help my Motorsport game - IF the lag is gone. Kinda scared to jump on one though because then I’d be tempted to fall down the scary money pit of upgrading peripherals like monitors, desk (small desk), chair, headset, etc… Is the delay known to be an issue with gamepads and Forza games? Surely not because SuperGT uses a gamepad (don’t know what kind) and he’s got some proper skillz.

I would try proper controller first.

I’m not sure what that means and it doesn’t explain why it only happens in Forza games…? Is the Logitech F310 not a ‘real’ controller?

Hard to say, the best controller is Xbox One controller. If it works with it, it’s OK. It’s not normal to have any lag in H4.

The OP is talking about the forced assist where steering speed and angle is controlled by the game regardless of how fast you move the stick.

That would make sense but I am not sure. Forza steering is slow but not slower than other games.

How many sims have you played with a pad? Something like Assetto Corsa or Project CARS 1 can be setup such that if you move your stick rapidly then the wheel moves equally rapidly. Forza simply doesn’t allow that, even in ‘simulation’ mode.

Forza’s control system works well and I’m not suggesting changing the normal setting but it would be good if ‘simulation’ turned off ALL assists.

Can’t you turn the graphics settings down?

That’s cool but he’s talking about other games

The Crew, TrackMania, The Crew 2, Asphalt 8 etc…

Forza doesn’t need it because it’s unplayable then
