From Controller to Racing Wheel. NEED HELP.

Hey all!

So I recently just purchased a TM 458 Spider Racing Wheel (yes, I know it’s not the best one) and I’m having a hard time getting used to driving with it. I’m always over steering and/or over steering on almost every turn. I really love the wheel I’m just truly she’ll shocked because I’ve never really played with a wheel. I do awesome with my controller, but while playing with the wheel, it’s a constant struggle. Any tips?

Please go easy on me. I know my wheel isn’t really made for sims, but I gotta start somewhere. I really want to get better at using this d*** thing lol.

Check the threads here: http://forums.forza.net/turn10_topics65_Hardware-and-Peripherals.aspx Lots of good information over there.

Practice. It takes a few weeks to get the hang of it, and much longer to master. How long did it take you to get used to using a controller, and then how long to perfect it? The wheel requires a lot more physical effort than a pad.

Try 360 or higher degrees of rotation ,some steering linearity can help also.

go to rivals so you can run as many laps as you need to. start very slow, like you drive in real life not racing. it should be easy to control the car, if not slow down more. then gradually increase speed, say 1 mph per lap. your subconscious will adapt and you’ll stop over correcting. if you start making to many mistakes slow down until you can handle it easily then increase the speed 1 mph and run multiple laps until its easy to control then increase speed again. your problem right now is you are getting surprised and over correcting. slowly increasing the speed eliminates the surprise, you’ll start expecting the force feedback.

if it helps turn on every assist and turn them off one by one. you should be able to match your controller times in a few days. stay relaxed, don’t stress. stress causes more mistakes. if you get frustrated take a break. just like your real car eventually your subconscious is going to pick it up and do the fine adjustments without you even realizing it. do you listen to music when you are driving in real life, then listen to music when you play. make it as close to driving in real life as you can. concentrate on keeping it on the road and let the speed come on its own in time, just like you did when learning to drive in real life.

increase by 1mph per lap! good luck with that, its either 30mph or 100+ :stuck_out_tongue:

Start with the 65 mini cooper, and you’ll get the feeling from there

You just have to give yourself little bit of time. Changing to a wheel after years of gamepad can be frustrating at the beginning. I just had more than one wheel on different consoles.
And everytime i changed from gamepad to a new wheel, the first hours i was in doubt to return the wheel and to go ahead with the gamepad. It took a few weeks to reach the times i did with the pad. And propably if everything would be about times, i would go with the gamepad. But at the end it’s about fun and so withoud doubt i go with the wheel. Take your time and try to enjoy. It’s a game. You spend money for console and wheel in order to have some good time! Take a class c car (spider) and make a sightseeing trip to prague. try some parking, and enjoy the view.
