I never thought a video game could save me but it did.
It was about 102f in Texas and had just rained so the roads were hot and wet. I was doing a regular slow turn after a stop sign and my car fish tailed almost to the point of being perpendicular to the road. it was a 30mph zone so I wasn’t cranking the gas or anything like that, it just slipped on a wet road. But because of Forza I instinctively steered into the turn and then somehow knew a rear wheel drive vehicle would over correct and before I was straight I started pulling my wheel back the other way which made the opposite swing almost nothing. The wheels caught traction after a slight swing in the other direction and no one was hurt. Which is EXACTLY what happens to me in the game. Honestly it was like driving in the game. I’ve never fish tailed like that before and if I had not played the game I probably would have stomped on the breaks and rolled my car or crashed into the car coming at me in the other lane.
I am forever thankful to the realism the Forza team has put into their product.
Sometimes the white line might not be as rough as the pavement and when it starts to rain the oils are brought up to the roads surface. The longer it rains the more oils are washed away giving you better traction on wet roads.
It rained quite a bit here where I stay in Texas too. What part are you in?? They call where I stay “West Texas” but it’s more smack dab in the middle (Abilene.) Glad you made it out of that situation safely! I feel like playing racing simulators for the past 10+ years with a wheel has helped me have greater situational awareness and better vehicle control in adverse scenarios.
That is very, very cool. Great to hear that you were able to translate sim driving experience to the real world and it saved you. Glad you weren’t hurt!
That’s cool, I had a similar situation last winter when I was going around a bend on the highway after a dusting of snow and the tail end of my car came around nearly putting me sideways, I just steered into the slide and was able to correct myself.
That’s a good bit of driving, Shido. Rain can be a funny thing, as others have mentioned, as the pavement can get really slick really quick. It’s good to hear that you saved it and nobody got hurt (and no cars were damaged, either.) This highlights what I love about Forza 5: it’s forgiving enough to be fun, but realistic enough to be immersive.
I assume you play Forza on a wheel? Because based off the knowledge I’ve gained using a controller I would of stomped the gas and tried to straighten out, which would put me in the rear bumper of the car (knowing my luck, a H1 hummer) in front of me, which is also very similar to Forza.
Awwwwwww so cute… I live in Canada so power sliding is part of my life for almost 6 month a years since (about 15 years) the day I’dd start to drive and I can tell the name of the move you make it is called the Scandinavian flick Scandinavian flick - Wikipedia, a move that we have to master if we whant to stay alive here in the north
That’s awesome bro ,I’ve had similar experiences my self .I’m not going in depth but ,I was dumb in my younger years and decided to outrun the cops in my turbo’d Teggy and my friend was a passenger .well after numerous lefts and rights through a subdivision (I’m not proud of this lol) I came to a highway n out I went .my friend told me he’s never seen anyone drive like this and I laughed and told him believe it or not I never thought ,it was just instinct, do to my years of forza experience I believe it helped .the next day I was at stoplight n a cop rolled up turning in front of me and stopped and looked at me for a good five seconds and drove off I’m sure he new it was me but never got close enough to get my tag so I guess couldn’t prove it was me lol ah huh young dumb and full of c… Lol
I know for a fact playing racing games hones the reflexes, a few years back a car pulled out from a junction in front of me and I had to slam the brakes on and avoided a crash, the front of my car dipped down and back went up, ABS is crazy good lol.
At the time I was playing F1 2010 a lot with a DFGT wheel, this defiantly helped avoid that accident by being able to get on the brakes quicker.
Good stuff! Glad to know you got off the hook unharmed!
This happened to me a couple of years ago, at the time I was deep into FM2 and 3: Climbing the road at a 30 deg angle, over 60 km/h, 90 deg right turn coming up ahead at a roundabout as the road levels… apparently a leaky water tanker and left a nice wet patch right where I was supposed to brake and turn… I own a Civic… the tyres break loose, off throttle oversteer… the tail starts to go… and without even thinking I downshift counter steer just enough to maintain a brief slide, tap the throttle and I exit the turn as if nothing’s happened.
T10’s physics are the best in business on a console… no question about it!
