Mitsubishi Starion was featured for a moment in the official list of cars in June and soon after removed… but you can still see it on that screenshot (captured in June as well) in the article at forza.net, so it’s quite amusing

Anyway, Starion matches other JDM classics in the game (like Skyline R31 or Supra '92) so I expect it to be included as well - if not at launch, then not long after it.

Forza Has Abandoned Classic Cars. (+ My Solution)

As the car reveals come to a close & the car divisions have been revealed, I’ve noticed a huge lack of anything resembling the Hot Rod Revival or Rods & Customs category. Which is both great & horrible at the same time. Let me explain.

The lack of the “hot rod” related divisions is good, because that title of division makes no sense. However, the lack of any “hot rod” divisions when that has historically been where Forza threw all classic American cars make me weary that we’ll be missing a LOT of beloved, iconic, legendary & beautiful classic cars at launch that practically every other Forza game has had.

The reason I strongly dislike the “hot rod revival” or “rods & customs” categories is because throwing cars like the '57 Bel-Air, '52 Hornet & '64 Impala etc. in categories like that ignores something very important about them: practically all of them have had genuine racing heritage! Especially the large American coupes, as they were all NASCAR stock cars at some point. Are we just going to ignore iconic race cars like Smokey Yunick’s '57 Chevy or the Fabulous Hudson Hornet? Why not turn this division into something actually motor sport related & have a “Birth of Stock Car Racing” division? Even '32 Fords were used in stock car racing!

Devs, I know you guys are focusing on track racing. But do I really have to remind you guys that classic road cars raced too? Yanno…it’s kinda what started the single biggest racing series in the entire U.S.

It seems pretty common to find people who think that classic road cars like the Bel-Air, Impala, Fury etc. aren’t for racing games like this, so I think putting them in a division that rightfully acknowledges their racing heritage would be nice, & it would also remind the naysayers that they’re ignorant for thinking that. Although from the looks of things I fear that even T10 themselves fell for this mentality given that none of them have been added and likely aren’t going to be at launch…

No Bel-Air (perhaps the most iconic classic car of all time)
No C1 Corvette
No '64 Impala
No Plymouth Fury
No '32 Ford.

There is not a single American car older than 1962. And no American road cars until 1965. (all of which are just muscle cars). Why?

T10 has thus far just completely ignored every classic American car that isn’t an old Muscle Car or full fledged race car. I totally understand that not every car is going to return from the old games. People are bummed about no EG Civic, but at least there are plenty of other Civics. People are bummed about no Murcielago but at least there are plenty of other Lamborghinis. But for classic American car enthusiasts, we don’t have a single alternative. We get literally nothing. An entire huge section of the car community is just completely ignored. Really dampened all of my excitement & makes me want to rethink pre-ordering entirely.

Chris Esaki insists that the game releasing on October 5th is the finished product & fulfills the vision that the team has been working towards, & I’m not sure what I’d rather believe at this point. That he was lying & that they are planning on drip feeding cars & new divisions, or that he was being honest & that the entire development team (supposedly made up of car enthusiasts) all agreed to include zero classic American cars.

Here are the cars included in these hot rod groups in the prior games that are so far missing from the car list: ‘57 Chevrolet Bel Air, ‘58 Plymouth Fury, '60 Chevrolet Corvette ‘53 Chevrolet Corvette, ‘32 Ford Coupe, ‘40 Ford De Luxe Coupe, '52 Hudson Hornet, ‘55 Chevrolet 150, ‘49 Mercury Coupe, ‘56 Ford F-100, ‘46 Ford Super Deluxe Station Wagon, ‘50 Holden 50-2106 FX Ute, & the ‘59 Cadillac Eldorado. (If the '57 Thunderbird & '63 Lincoln returned they would also likely be thrown into this category). Given none of these have been revealed yet, & there’s no divisions that they’d fit under they’re likely not coming to the game at all at launch.

Cheers to FM23 having none of my favorite cars.

Car list went from my all time favorite, to my least favorite since FM2.

Would love this post to age like milk & see them all revealed last second, but we’ll see…

Car list went from looking like it was going to be better than FM4, to one of the worst. Still super disappointed about this.

I think all that’s left now is to publish the full list so T10 is keeping that for some special occasion, closer to the release… Well, we’re very close already so I think it needs to happen before Thursday

Even if T10 is not going to publish the full list, we’ll know it anyway when the review embargo is lifted (which in the worst case scenario should happen with the launch of early access) and footage from the game flow across the web

The car list will likely be at 530 cars at launch (516 base cars, eight from the Race Day Car Pack, five VIP Forza Editions, and one loyalty Forza Edition). One piece of game footage I saw had up to 529 rental cars in Free Play (assuming the player in the video does not have the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Forza Edition).
