Don’t ask me how, but the latest rumours suggest the next Forza Motorsport game would be an open-world title, similar to the Horizon series. Turn 10 and Microsoft deliberately mention the next Forza game as a “new experience” and it looks like they’re making an open-world racing game, or at least something with open-world elements in it. What we know for sure is that “Forza 8” will have a different tyre and suspension model, and almost certainly will support ray tracing both on Series X and PC. However, since it’s continuously mentioned as a “new experience”, I can assume these rumours have foundation and they really are trying to make it open-world. I’m not a fan of this idea myself, though.
This video explains more (from around the 2:10 mark). Not my video but it highlights the recent rumours relatively well:
I don’t know if making Forza Motorsport 8 (or maybe just plainly called “Forza Motorsport”) such a different game will be a good thing. I’m sure the driving model and the physics of Forza 7 needs a complete overhaul but I don’t like the series getting closer to Horizon, which is a completely different title with different goals. I wouldn’t like the two merged into one in any way. I still hope the next Motorsport game will really put the emphasis on motorsport itself and not flashy show elements like Horizon. But the latest rumours are indicating that maybe the exact opposite is happening. We’ll see in a few months I guess.
Those rumors are a big pile of lies, the “new experience” will be the new physics, ray tracing and possibly rallycross since it didnt get into FM7 because of lack of time, or you know it could just be classic marketing mumbo jumbo
Can’t figure out another place on these forums to post this, so I’ll leave it here.
[Mod Edit - thread merged. Any future title that doesn’t have a specified subforum can be discussed in General Xbox Gaming - MM]
Next Forza for the Series X
Rumors have gone around suggestion that Horizon & Motorsport will be merging into one game, similar to The Crew 2. What are your thoughts?
Well, they did announce the next game will be a whole new iteration of Forza, so what other suggestions would you have if it wouldn’t be the two merging? I did read an article or two on this stating that it’s likely, obviously not confirmed though.
It’s very problematic to change Motorsport. It’s a leader and don’t need much changes. It could have new career with some cutscenes. From gaming perspective there is not much bad stuff, you only need to improve what 7 brought. It’s enough work for this year release.
How would merge work?
I would like to have more Motorsport physics in Horizon but it doesn’t make much sense too.
What about third game? Maybe some crazy mix, who knows but probably not this year.
Unfortunately, just another Motorsport is too repetitive. It would be nice if they could spice it up majorly somehow, but there’s been far too many complaints since the release of FM7 being “just another boring Motorsport”. With a new iteration announced, there’s going to have to be some major shake up with the next game whatever it is.
Racing is “boring”. The problem with M7 was it was buggy and without awaited content. Add all and fix everything and you have the next king. For instance, penalization is very important and it’s enough to help it a lot.
Spice could be improved physics
What’s your idea of the merge with Horizon? I can’t imagine working concept from Motorsport.
I do believe I read an interview of theirs stating there’s going to be more in-depth customization. Hopefully better physics as that’s the biggest flaw compared to other racing games.
I like the idea of having Horizon & Motorsport merging, like Crew 2. More freedom, more excitement for a Horizon game, but would miss a proper Motorsport game with real Motorsport tracks as well, so not sure.
IMO Motorsport can change very significantly without any Horizon influence or merging. The major thing it lacks compared to iRacing and GT Sport is a two factor rating system (speed and safety/sportsmanship), and proper championship seasons with scheduled races split into lobbies by those two factors. Just adding all that in, along with an evolution of the penalty system, would make it a totally different game to any previous FM. The continued glaring deficiencies in the GTS penalty system have created an opening for anyone who can do a better job of it in a mainstream game with a large number of players.
using a new engine allowing FM8 to manage off roads races ( rally , suv, truck races ) ,
more than 50 vehicles / race and online closing to what is done in Gran turismo Sport.
New tire model, new suspension model, new pressure system. FM8 could be going open world … this last info could as well be the source for some saying that FM and FH are merging… I - ray tracing / photogrammetry …
I also read somewhere some codemaster dev had been onboarded ( not sure if it was FH for FM related ) which would support the idea of improving simulation aspect ( I guess / not a codemaster games player myself )
imho, it could be that FM opens to supporting open world races, rally, cross country … street races … and manage it as “serious/educated” competition with proper tuning feature etc while FH continues its way down to kids garden. It would be an acceptable compromise to me, at least better than merging the two games but expect the best and prepare for the worse …
Horizon and Motorsport will continue as separate series for sure, different studios with different types of games for different audiences. A merge simply makes no sense.
99% chance we’ll see Forza Motorsport 8 announced in the coming months for release on Series X, potentially at launch like Motorsport 5.
Far as I know it’s just a complete reboot. Taking all that they’ve learned from failed and successful games pouring it all into one. New suspension model, tire model, and sound engine all seem very likely. Esaki has been throwing the ‘built not bought’ term around quite a bit in interviews and such so I imagine the car customization is about to get more robust. As much as I want Motorsport to go the open world route, I doubt it will happen. Horizon does a fine job of that anyways. Even if this current iteration is a bit lack luster. I’m willing to bet we’ll hear a lil something about it next month.
Bigger garage and tune storage.
Dress-up optional at most. Gone preferable.
Don’t use customers as Beta testers for the first 4-6 months.
Other stuff, but this is the most obvious and ignored.
haha, no. well, i’m not sure if they’re doing it, but that’s my opinion. Why do they have to make a new series? You don’t need to go completely back to the drawing board to improve a game sequel.
