What Bond car is missing? It may not be the most important, or most famous, but in 1989 Timothy Dalton drove a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII LSC, but why is this important?
The Mark VII really pushed the envelope and was the first American manufactured vehicle to be equipped with a replaceable bulb headlamp system. Ford had petitioned NHTSA for a rule change permitting replaceable bulb headlamp systems, which was enacted in the summer of 1983 in time for the introduction of the Mark VII. (Cite Wikipedia) You can thank the Mark VII for your yellow headlights.
The Mark VII was also the first American car with Standard Four Wheel Anti-Lock brakes, one week before the Corvette.
What’s cool though? Well the Mark VII was a Fox Body. Wait, isn’t that a Mustang? Well yes, the Mustang was built on the Fox Platform, same as the Cougar, Thunderbird, and Mark VII, though the Mustang was the smallest of the bunch. The Mark VII was equipped with the Mustang GT’s 5.0, with the H.O coming in 1988 at 225 Horse and 300 Pound feet of torque paired to a 4 speed AOD Trans and 3.27 8.8" Posi Rear (Standard in the LSC, Luxury Sport Coupe).
The Mark VII also had its own GNX Killer…or what I think could have been the GNX Killer. The 1985-86 GTC was a fully blacked out Mark VII. Stage 1 was simply a body kit, but Stage 2 added Roush Built suspension, removing the air suspension. Now, if you got a Stage 2 you could add the “Performance Package” which gave you a Roush built 351W and 5 Speed manual all paired to that same 3.27 rear. Very little GTCs were made, less than 50 actually, so they never were production cars and never really faced the GNX.
From 1990-92 the LSC Special Edition came out, offered in Black, Red, and a rare Gray Metallic. Monochrome trim and special BBS Styled wheels (some rare ones were made by BBS) added to the cool look of this hot rod Lincoln, but it was just that, a cool look.
There’s a lot more to the Mark VII than I can really put here, but they’re incredible cars and they deserve some screen time. What else could have done the jump in “Drive Angry” or soaked in Bullets in “Malibu’s most Wanted?” I think it would be cool to see a Mark VII in a game especially since the GNX is always the 80s luxury hot rod, but honestly with the GTC around the GNX doesn’t do it for me. I’m biased though, I own two LSCs.
So I’m assuming this still has something to do with the car wishlist? In that case,
'08-'10 Chevy Cobalt SS Turbo Coupe (Or Sedan) Because the T/C LNF is better than S/C LSJ
'98-'01 Nissan Stagea 260RS (Never enough wagons, especially ones with an RB26 in it)
'05 Mitsubishi Evo 9 Wagon (If Mitsubishi ever allows their cars in games again in the future)
'05-'06 Pontiac GTO
Maybe some older Chevy trucks like older Gens of the Silverado, especially that of the Stepside versions, same goes for Dodge, and Ford alike
More Gassers!
That’s about all I really would love in the game. There are many others I want but those are what pop into my head first
