Forza Horizon 2 competitor

The crew, a new game to be released later this year seems to be a big competitor to forza horizon 2! I don’t want to seem harsh onto forza because i have always loved the forza series and i still play the original forza horizon today but the crew seems to be one step ahead in terms of map size and tuning features (baring in mind forza horizon 2’s tuning system has not been shown) and also a few other areas. I look forward to seeing what is in store for forza horizon 2 that will make me want to buy it more than the crew. (i will probably go for forza anyway because i have always had so much fun with forza horizon and i also prefer the driving style compared to nfs games etc.

We know nothing about the physics of the Crew,we know what we are getting with FH2. The game can look great but if it drives like crud i’m not getting it! FH2 is going in my X1 as soon as i can get my hands on it

We have not seen the tuning in Forza Horizon 2 but seeing as it hasn’t changed since at least Forza 3, I doubt it will be much different. Forza Horizon 2 is going to be based on the physics engine of Forza Motorsport 5 (for Xbox One) and though it is tuned a little different it is still more on the simulator end of the gaming spectrum even though it is an open world game.

The Crew does look very interesting, but based on what I’ve seen and read it is definitely more into the arcade side of things. Just because you drive “all over America” does not mean that the whole of the United States is available for driving, I’m sure there will be several very large areas connected by fast travel exits to connect the regions. Just take a look at how Need for Speed the Run was advertised and their “open-world, drive across the United States” was very spread out and very, very linear and hardly open.

The game will definitely be a competitor to Forza Horizon 2 but I think there are enough differences to put the games far enough apart from each other that it won’t hurt sales much. Most people that I know that enjoy racing games are highly likely to buy both anyways. I know I will.

Edit: I apologize for my comment. What I meant was that many people on these forums are aware of upcoming games “The Crew” and “DriveClub,” and that news of Horizon 2’s potential rivals is not really surprising.

For me forza as a whole is on another level compered to anything else on the market as a true driving experience you get sim physics tuning and painting capabilities which are the most real to life I think. Maybe it’s just me but arcade games like the crew look good but the driving is just rubbish I’ve seen lots of footage now for the crew and it looks like a lot of ten year olds might buy it just to Arcady for me no skill involved to drive fast on there driving round tight bends at like 150 mph is a no no for me . But a lot of people will buy and like it I’m just being a fan boy I Suppose ha .

You don’t want to seem harsh but you are suggesting The Crew’s partially known tuning is better than FH2’s unknown tuning.

Come back when you have played both games and form a judgement then.

It is true that The Crew is a competitior to FH2 - they will both compete for my time and I expect to enjoy them both along with Project Cars. Time to be blessed with multiple racing games on the One.

I’ll admit The Crew has intrigued me. However, I don’t know what to expect from it, gameplay-wise. I have a good idea of what to expect from FH2, and the car roster reveal so far blows The Crew’s away. I know for sure I’ll be playing FH2. Only time will tell if I also play any others.

The Crew’s “tuning” and performance upgrade system seems to combine for only 6 options. And the cosmetic customization seems to be a lot more like a NFS game. Just from the name “The Crew” and terms they use in-game like “Stickers” for the decals, you can tell its made as an Arcade-style racer. And from the gameplay I’ve seen the physics are in a different world from Forza.

Also… The Crew apparently has an astounding 20+ hours of campaign gameplay!!!

I think I’ll stick with Forza.

Driving physics on the crew are sketchy at best. Playing it last week on the PC beta, i discovered the steering is slow to respond to input, but then snap oversteers. This happens in all cars to some degree. Worse, is that a slight collision with some trackside object that should have you lose traction, results in a 50 feet in the air barrel roll.
I was really looking forward to the crew, but right now the pre-order is cancelled. The map was big, the missions were fun enough, but the core mechanics for a racing game should be the handling physics, and they seem to have the bare minimum of attention. It’s like Watch_Dogs, handling, only worse. At least with watch dogs the cars had different feels to them. The crew was all cars doing the exact same thing, just some not quite as bad.
The crew is going to be no competition for Horizon 2 if you want decent physics, and the ‘tuning’ in the crew is the same old stuff we’ve seen for years. Swapping parts out individually does not constitute tuning. Also there were some serious server issues during the beta. Issues i’ve not had elsewhere. Now yes, it was a beta and as such i was giving it leeway with regard to some issues, like network problems, some gameplay or graphics issues. But for a car game to have ubisofts familiar standard of wonky driving physics is inexcusable at this point. The vehicles in Far Cry 3 drive better than the ones in the crew. No, i’m not exaggerating.
I’m hoping they address these issues before launch, but from what was being said, they seem happy with the driving model as is. So i’m waiting for a other people to buy it before i do and have cancelled my pre-order.
I’ll be waiting to see what Horizon 2 brings for my open world driving needs, but that doesn’t get a guaranteed free pass either after Forza 5 with it’s missing features.
I’m at the point now where no game no matter how good in the past, gets a free pass to my wallet.

Thanks to all that posted their thoughts because I wanted to see what other people said about the crew. One of the things mentioned a lot was the driving style and that’s one of the things forza has really done better than other games such as need for speed and to be truly honest, no game has a driving style as good as forza which is why i will stick to forza.

Did you check out The Crew forums? Amazingly enough, the opinions there are somewhat different, but if you change a few brand names around, very similar to what you have here.

It’s all conjecture at this point anyway since not much is known about either game. If you are one of those gamers that still gets sucked in by the super “pre order” deals, well…

Most of the developers working on The Crew are old developers that made Test Drive Unlimited 2, which is known for having terrible connectivity issues and judging from the beta it doesn’t look any different. Another thing to note is that most, if not all, driving/racing games published by Ubisoft end up being bad. Just look at Driver San Francisco, sure it went back to is roots but it was still bad.

The Crew’s customization isn’t all that great either the body kits are presets for the class you choose. Its not going to be like the usual Forza that lets you choose what kits you want. As far as I can tell the only thing you can customize are the engine parts and your paint. The only reason that feature may look good is because of how they presented it.

Then there is the map…sure its the WHOLE USA but honestly I’m getting tired of open world racers taking place in America, its just boring now since we’ve seen a lot of it already. That’s why Horizon 2 will be better. It is going where no other open world racer has gone (at least none that I know of).

As a few people have already mention the physics for The Crew are indeed 100% arcade, heck even Mario Kart 64 beats it in that field. Oh and lets not forget that The Crew’s car list is not even 25% of what Horizon 2’s will be

I know what game I’m getting, how about you guys?

I am getting both and Project Cars.

Project Cars for my sim needs (I expect it to have good handling and sincerely hope it does)
FH2 for my open world game with somewhat realistic handling
The Crew for my arcade run amok fun (I believe I know what to expect re handling and other stuff - I just hope no TDU2 bugs are present)

The map does look quite large, it should be interesting to see how the sizes compare.

The crew looks arcadey so i doubt its a proper competitor. I liked the sim feeling of cars in Horizon and im glad Horizon 2 has that :), and the car list probably wont be as big as Forza too, so never mind map size it should be big enough. Since both are available for the console no harm in getting both lol

The Crew caught my interest as well, especially because it’s made by the developers of TDU2 and I still love playing that game. Why? Because of the map size and all the lovely and sometimes even hidden places you could discover there. Sure Horizon has much better driving and the visuals may be a little better, but it was lacking the map size and all the little gems that are in TDU2. The crew map sure looks huge, but I would not expect anything else on the next gen consoles. If TDU2 managed Ibiza and Hawaï on the last gen, I’d expect something huge on the next gen. I’ve been considering the Xbox One or PS4 and Forza has not been the reason for that, The Crew is the reason for that together with Project Cars. Those games caught my interest.

Since Grid Autosport was released my interest for Project Cars has become a lot less and… it is rumored that The Crew may come to the 360. I’m not sure if that is true, but if it is so my next gen console plans will be put on ice for a long time, knowing that Horizon 2 will be on the 360 as well. I’m going to keep my eye on The Crew, it looks like quite some game with a lot of adventure and excitement.

At E3 The Crew team mentioned that the cross country race from Miami to LA takes 2.5 hours. That gives an impression of how large the map really is. That makes TDU2 look small, the largest race around the map took about an hour there and this isn’t even around the map yet. That makes Horizon’s map tiny and I sure hope Horizon 2 has something good in store when it comes to map size or they well have lost the battle on that part already.

EDIT: Went to The Crews website did get some more info. The map is the whole of the US and from Miami to LA takes 40 minutes if you take the most direct route. That’s about the same time I can drive all of Horizon 1’s roads. So the map is really huge indeed, great news. Best news I’ve read is that the developers confirmed the game is coming the 360 and that is just awesome. Here’s what they’ve stated: “Today, we’re excited to bring The Crew’s same core features, massive scope, mission variety, and overall driving experience to the players on Xbox 360.” Bye bye next gen console for me
