Forza 7 was Casualized for the Mainstream

I would say the core gameplay is very similar to Forza 5 and 6 but the theme of the game, the soundtrack, the mods that heavily reward you in credit bonuses for using assists, the cheesy driver celebration animations, the clown suits etc. all feels catered to the casuals.

You have interesting thoughts about mainstream. You just put a topic about this game being much harder to earn money. That’s pretty much the opposite of causal. And this game you get no bonuses until you put it up to above average, with no assists giving you money. The only way to get mods is to buy them or you get lucky and get some. Considering you got credits for everything you did in 6, that’s far different from here.

The animations are pretty much if you like them or not.

I’m still trying to grasp what “Cater to the Casuals” means when it comes to Forza Motorsport. This isn’t the first time(or 5th) I’ve seen this term used when referencing FM7. I always felt all Forza titles were casual racers and if I want a hardcore experience I hop over to Assetto Corsa or rFactor.

I totally agree.

You see more people than not saying “It’s not realllll enougggghhhhh!!!” It’s not supposed to be a sim. It’s not trying to be a sim. This is why I am much better at it than AC or PCars.

People need to stop trying to categorize it into the so-called “Sim” category. Don’t even get me started on the whole “Simcade” business either. The very word makes me cringe.

Yes it is a casual racing game. I prefer casual racing games because I enjoy the cars and the handling model of FM more than simulators.

Another thing that makes my skin crawl is, and for lack of a better word, elitists who say that, “Oh you are such a terrible driver because you play Forza!!” Nope. No. Just, no.

Again, it is casual. It’s not trying to be anything else.

Agree with a few comments here, Forza is and has always been a casual racing game based on motorsport never has it been a hardcore sim ( thankfully)

except forza 1 and 2 WERE serious racing sims, but turn 10 were forced to casualize the franchise when it became a cornerstone of the xbox brand. all of the gimmicks meant to bait 12 year olds like crates and cards need to stay in horizon

Uhh, yeah, Forza has always been about making racing accessible to all.

Forza 1 and 2 were not serious race sims. They were accessible arcade games and T10 have built upon that design ever since.

spoken like someone who clearly hasn’t played either game

Spoken like a true elitist.

Yeah, totally never played either game. Forza 7 is my first Forza game.

The game went from arcade-sim to full on arcade, eliminating what was left of sim features. Full horizon style with road course. The is models is to milk all the snowflake of money when thing’s get hard.

If anything it’s more difficult for the casuals because it actually means you need to be good at the game rather than just downloading a LB tune to be any good at it.

Gameplay itself seems fine to me. Menus are slightly changed but it’s just menus guys.

…What? Previous versions of this game had assists that literally braked for you if you needed it. And that’s great. More people being able to enjoy a game is good. I don’t get this elitist ‘noob/casual’ hate.

I AGREE CMPLETELY!

The reason I’m liking Forza 7 and the reason I’ve liked Forza games in the past is simple. It can be a casual game if you want it to but it can be a serious game as well, it just depends on your style and how you want to play it.

Can’t agree with about fm7. They have removed the serious parts of the game out.

Not sure I can agree… I just did the Endurance race in the second series with the C7 Corvette on Pro difficulty… No assist of course… Did 46 laps 2 pit stops and I thought it was very challenging and enjoyable. I use a wheel and Pedals of course… The tire wear and fuel was n… If I would have used damage it would have been even more difficult and I likely wouldn’t have won the race by only 5 seconds after 46 laps. That’s pretty serious racing sim IMHO… Had I used unbeatable and damage I likely wouldn’t have finished even.

All the GT cars in their official liveries and the sounds it was simply fantastic… Oh yeah at SPA. I should have done the extra long race, I’ll likely go back.

I’ve played racing SIM’s since GTR/rFactor as well as the old 2003 NASCAR. I currently own every single race sim available and play them all… IRacing, AC, R3, rF2, pCars1/2 and many others.

So all I can say is the game can be challenging and fun… Plus I think it’s close to the best Forza racing game I’ve ever played!

Now things I really dislike:

  1. The fact I can not free play and setup a race with any car in the game… I paid 100 dollars for this game, I should at least be able to drive any car I like at any track I like, and not have to grind it in career mode to open up classic/lenders Cars.

  2. Crates… WTF is that about? Why the hell d I want t send 340K on a surprise crate… Maybe this feature should be called “The Price is Right”

  3. The big A$$ symbol at pit entry… T10 please allow to turn this off.

  4. MOD’s why have me buy a crate Bly to use the MD to get more game credits? I absolutely hate the aid Mod’s like Braking Line Only… How about more mods for no assist and Pro Difficulty!!!

  5. Daily Payouts… This has been in the game for many versions… And I never see the credits added! Why not let me D/L the credits like the weekly Rewards? I dn’t ever see my credits change due to these small additions… Not that they make any difference!

What have they removed?

Essential rivals is gone. The new class system severely limit how to build or use cars. Testing and tuning seem to be disconnected from other parts of the game. There still racing l, but all these features tie into racing online.
