I also think forza 4 was the apex (pun intended) of the forza franchise. What Swerve and Mike V said are correct. It was a compilation of what the first 3 games did well and then some. It really was a complete game top to bottom, there really was something for everyone. Ive said it before, i think when looked at individually forza 6 is one of the best racing games ever made. If i never played 4 id probably think it was the best even with its issues, but i did play 4 and it really was the best racing game ive ever played.
Forza 6 has the best handling characteristics. That makes it my favorite… I hate how they only have 460 cars though. What a joke. They need to focus on adding more cars and tracks. Gran turismo 5 has a 1000 cars so why does Forza 6 have less than half of that?
Because all of Forza’s are high quality models, with various Forzavista bits and pieces, rather than Gran Turismo’s low quality models imported directly from older games. (at least from what I’ve been told, I’ve not played much of 5, and never bought 6).
Another thing I’d like to point out about Gran Turismo’s car list-There are a ton of different versions of the same or very similar cars in that list. Forza does the same thing (to a point) with Indycar, NASCAR, and Formula E, but nothing like what Polyphony does. More does not mean more diverse.
FM4 had the most diverse car list with everything from hybrids to 50s land yachts to movie cars and more. FM4 had the most interesting monthly events with the best in game prizes. FM4 had the auction house and the ability to gift cars and share them in a club garage. The storefront was better and the lobby selection was my favorite.
FM6 is a rebound from the bottom of FM5 which was my least favorite. Turn10 fell a long way from 4 to 5 but they have clawed back a lot with FM6 and now FH3 has brought back even more features from the toy bin of last gen. FM6 got better handling characteristics, better physics, rain with awesome puddling, more tracks, a more interesting career, and more focus on racing history.
FM7 will be out in less than a year and hopefully the momentum continues. If so I have a feeling FM7 will be the game to own.
It’s great to see lots of people agreeing that FM4 was by far the pinnicle of the franchise and I agree with all the points brought up. Hopefully FM7 will be “the game to own” personally I think FM8 will be more lickly. After all slowly giving back all the features from the “toy bin of last gen” will ensure lots of sales for the next release and the next and so on.
I just think if you have a good platform for a game that works then keep building on that. It’s not going to look brand new but if there is continued support with dlc and community events there is no reason why a title can’t have a much longer shelf life than 2 years. I played FM4 until Sept 18th last year the realese day of FM6. That’s 4 years of playtime and all I heard from my friends who had FM5 is they want to play FM4. I would gladly pay £180 for another 4 years of FM4 and twice the content that was orginally sold with FM4. Thats the equivalent of a game every 2 years.
There are lots of things I miss about the old games that I wish the newest iterations had, those little things add that little bit extra of depth that a game needs.
Teams releasing their cars via the auction house instead of just sharing files on the storefront or whatever its called now. The old forum was much more active back then, you used to see very intricate threads to advertise them on the forum and you would pick them up in the auction house. To me it made the cars more special to have in your garage.
Tuning in lobbies, I would have more interest in tuning if I could do this in FM6.
Your/others stats being shown in the lobby (# of races, podiums, wins) also showing your truskill rank.
Visible vote to kick. It was flawed in FM4, but their has to be a better way than simply making it invisible.
If had a ghost race against in tuning I would tune alot more.
If I could tune in a lobby I would put more effort in making a better tune.
If there where overall leaderboards I would hotlappers more.
If cold create my own lobbys and have people join them, I would race more.
If they didn’t take away features my friends like, I would have alot more friend that played.
Dumb little decisions that have big impact. Exp closing league right in the middle of my available time basically blocks me from playing. So I just turn off the game for a week. If they league are something into and I the windows are open, my game play will be up 10 hours a week.
Agreed, league windows are utter nonsense as well.
There are so many brainless things in this game I could post about but I think I would reach the maximum number of characters in this post. I honestly believe its MS imposing most of these things because I don’t believe a developer can be this dumb.
I believe the same thing. I fell the whole xbox 1 experience has felt very restricted. I have trouble play dvd, blue ray, music and game because of license issue. Game being dumb down. I about to move on from my Xbox altogether.
This sentence pretty much sums up why I stopped buying racing games for Xbox and started buying them on my PS4 instead.
I own Project C.A.R.S. for both consoles. On PS4 it has allowed you to view an online session list from the day it was launched, on Xbox One it was match making only until a session list was patched in a few months later after people were raging on the forums about it. Now that game is pretty much dead on Xbox, however on PS4 there are still 20-30 lobbies open at any given time.
Even F1 2016 on PS4 lets you view a session list, and there are normally a lot of lobbies open. I’m not sure if it’s the same for the Xbox version.
In some ways I’d say FM6 is the best Motorsport game because of NASCAR stock cars, open-wheel racers (Indycar and F1 especially) and also because of offline free play where you can choose the number of laps and earn CR/XP, but in other ways I would also put FM3/FM4 ahead for having more Super GT and DTM cars as well as a better Career mode with Event List. I especially liked FM3’s Season Play, I thought that was the best Career mode ever. If FM7 were to bring back Super GT and DTM cars and a Career mode like FM3/FM4 with event list while keeping NASCAR, Indycar and F1 cars and the current Free Play system found in FM6, then it would be the best Motorsport game ever! (At least IMO) I don’t play online multiplayer because of my poor internet, so I can’t judge there. If I had to pick one, I’d say FM3 is the best IMO, though FM4 and FM6 are very good too. FM5 is too short on content and the Career mode there isn’t as good IMO, so it ranks at the bottom. I know I’m a bit of an oddball picking FM3 as the best, but to each their own…
Yeah I think FM4 is the best and always will be (Tried Apex on PC and I’m not a big fan of the handling) . Sadly I was late for all of it (Just bought a 360 back in July) so the community is kinda dead and all the DLC is gone yet I am just starting the FM4 career mode and boy have I missed out! Nothing more satisfying then turning off all assists and winning first in a good clean race, but really if you miss the stuff from the previous games then go back and play them trust me it’s worth it! Still hopefully one day they can top FM4 and hopefully soon cause like I said above I just started to play 4!
If anyone wants a fm4 reunion am there. I have just bought a brand new controller for my 360 I was a bit abusive with my last 2. If it cane back on backward compatibility it would kill fm6
If t-10 wants to be smart, they would make f-7 like f-4 with the better graphics and handling we have now. then they really see the money roll in…wish full thinking. lol
I dont see forza 7 being more like 4 than 6. They’ve added too many “new” features that i doubt they’ll give up on. After seeing horizon 3 become more arcade seemingly trying to seperate itself from motorsport, im going to assume forza 7 will probably stay at the same level of simulation as 6, which is not really.
The biggest issue i see is that with the release of the scorpio more time and money will be sunk into the 4k and hdr graphics than to the gameplay.
Forza 4 was also my favourite of the franchise. It was the game that made me really fall in love with cars and painting and everything really. I love Forza 6 to pieces and I love the physics and graphics of the game however to me Forza 4 just seemed like a game that was made with love. I never quite get that from a Forza game anymore. I played Forza 5 the other day and was actually blown away from some things there as well actually… yes I know Forza 5 dear God I’m insane but it was actually a lot of fun and some thing dare I say I prefer in Forza 5 to forza 6 and even forza 4. I think forza 4 was the pinnacle of the franchise but recently with FH3 I feel like some stuff we’ve been craving for has returned like the Auction house. They’ve relatively fixed the wheel in FH3 which feels great. Forzathon I find terrible (no offense) but I really do think that if done right it could really blossom. Graphically FH3 looks incredible and stuff like the scenery is mind blowing. We kinda have a storefront in H3… kinda. All of these little things were getting back could be really cool if they remain for Forza 7. Honestly I want Forza 4’s career mode, content and overall feel with an updated version of FM6’s physics and perhaps as an improvement dynamic weather?!? And FH3’s graphics and wheel improvements, then FM7 could give players that sheer joy that we’ve been missing since FM4.
