After trying my best in this event I am proud of my 1.39:12. I am 44 yrs old! I will say this though. If Turn 10 is trying to bring everyone together as a closer community I feel as though they didn’t succeed at it this time around. I feel they put a larger gap between the top guys and the casual gamers. 1.18% in the Americas and 2% in World!!!
I am glad that the people that were able to beat Triton were able to. Me personally, I don’t want it just given out. That’s entitlement. And the heck with that. There has to be a way to even it out a little. They did it with leagues… Why not something along the same lines as that??
I have also been following the CBH post a some of the comments about the gamers from the Americas being "just terrible " that doesn’t help either. As for this Rules of engagement … It’s worth reading but do you really think that someone that’ is in front of you should just pull off to the side or change their line just cause your faster?? I won’t go out of my way to wreak you cause your faster but I will not change my line or pull over just cause your faster than I am Its your job to find an opening and then pass me… Parts of it sound to me like its what the “Elite” are telling the “Casual” gamers this is how you should act when I race against you. That’s entitlement also. Sorry guys.
I am almost certain that a lot of you will disagree and that’s fine. Just try asking yourself do you really try to help the kids out that don’t know as much as you?? I’m not talking about posting an open tune or telling them what settings to change. I say some of the “Elite” could create a private lobby where questions are asked and the answers are given out. You guys are better than the rest but it won’t last forever… I living proof of that!!
Agreed on the Rules of Engagement! I’m staying on my line regardless unless I’ve been wrecked & have damage to where I’m no longer competitive or if I know the other car is right next to me in a turn… I will then either take the lowest line or the highest line to avoid contact in the turns. I won’t block either unless it is a drag race to the finish…this is only fair since the car behind you can draft off of & then slingshot past you… I only do the blocking at the very last of the race when it’s close to the finish line. I don’t wreck anyone for the win… just move when they move in order to break the draft & stall out their run.
However I think also common sense could be used, if its quite obvious that you are slower than someone behind you should in some cases let them pass.
For example if 2 faster cars are about to overtake you, then say 1 car get through, and the other will have to stay behind you because you do everything to block him, thats not fair or good sportsmanship.
In general you should hold your line, and can take 1 line change for each straight, and its the other drivers job to overtake you. But if you change your line all the time to block people thats just as bad as ramming people.
This is my opinion, and I am not a particualary fast driver. Just a guy who likes fair and clean races.
Keep an eye out for blue flags next time you watch motorsports and also the following bad sportsmanship flag that follows the blue flag being ignored.
For me respect goes to good clean racers, not finishing positions or lap times.
I think you’re missing the point on the rules of engagement.
No one is suggesting you should just pull over and let fast guys past, what’s being pointed out is that once someone has got alongside you need to adjust your line to accommodate them. This is not “letting them past”, it’s just sensible racecraft, because it’s the difference between you losing one place and both of you losing several places.
And it’s not just slower racers being asked to do this, everyone should, it’s just that [most] faster guys do it already. If you get alongside a fast driver before the start of the breaking zone they won’t just blindly follow their usual line because they know it’ll take you both out. Instead they’ll take the fastest line possible that allows you space - either they’ll aim for a new apex a car-width wider than the original apex, or they’ll go on deeper than usual and try to hold the place on the outside, or they’ll slow down more and try to cut back inside coming out of the corner.
It needed pointed out because a lot of slower drivers don’t do this, they seem to think they’re entitled to precisely the bit of tarmac they always drive on regardless of who is around them or in front of them or alongside them.
Exactly this. If I’m being passed I’ll concede where applicable and try to either hang it out around the outside if the next corner is the opposite, or I’ll go for a switchback if there is a long straight coming up, ready to launch an attack up the straight or into the next braking zone. Some people go all or nothing when faced with these situations and more often than not that will cost you dearly. There’s a lot more to racecraft and rules of engagement than just “he’s faster, better block the hell out of him.” Requires track knowledge and experience.
Back to the challenge at hand, I consider myself to be one of the quicker guys (I’m in the low 37’s after about 10 laps) and I offered two pages ago to study people’s replays and give them personal tips on how to improve and beat the time. Not a single person took me up on that offer. The help is out there, it’s whether or not it’s taken.
Yes you did. And I thank you for that. it’s a shame that no one took you up on it.I commend you Sir. But why were you the only one I will never know. That’s part of my point. The ghost system offers a challenge. I get that. That’s only going to get people so far. To the top of there natural abilities. And following the suggested line will make you slow as heck. I get that also.
I respect each of your opinions and don’t intend to offend or call out anyone. If I did offend you then I apologize.
What about an in game Racing School. Where all tracks are included. Where the thoughts and ideas come from the fastest guys… Like where to brake , where to turn in why the car did what it did .Same for the tuning section of the game. Ideas and tips that come from the best. Not just a general statement for under-oversteer. And where your Rules of Engagement will fit right in. To help teach what you guys have learned. To the next gen… Would idea work in any way??? We may never know…
As much as it is, I very much doubt T10 would ever approach anyone from the community for it, they seem to overlook us for pretty much everything else in favour of the YT celebs that only have a fleeting interest. That’s an issue for another time anyway.
Something like the licence tests in GT would be a great addition to Forza. Basic car control, braking and acceleration techniques, passing and etiquette. For those of you that would like to have a look, I wrote a basic guide on Reddit a few months back, if there’s enough interest I’ll post it over here in its own thread. Some of it is very basic and it’s still unfinished but it’s a start. Reddit - Dive into anything
I don’t understand why the fast guys are always called out on the forums… As for the rules of engagement, ‘we expect’ people to act mature and conduct themselves properly on the track because that’s what makes the game the most entertaining. Getting turned in on and held up because somebody is stubborn is no fun.
Also, expecting that you should just be fast is entitlement. If you want to be fast with the help of the ‘elite’, hop into rivals and race their ghost, you’ll pick up a lot of things quite quickly if you know what you’re looking for.
At least community is what WE make out of the things we got! Don’t wanna jump on the moaning train, just handle the game with my friends to have fun.
And-it is possible.
Turn 10 decimated this community when they removed all the community features from the game. They are trying to mitigate some of the damage with the rvials and leagues etc, but half the time they don’t get updated when they should as if they’re forgotten about. The Bounty Hunter events are pretty good, but when you’ve got Triton on it not many will be faster. But it is what it is. Last time i checked about 600 people had got him beat and so will be receiving the car. Plus the random picks that get it. So that’s a good amount of people considering how few people are on the forums regularly these days. lol
I think they should organise more events and have them not just about flat out speed. Some autocross, some timed events where you have to run say 5 laps and have them all within a certain time to show consistency. Tag events etc. Mix it up instead of it always just being fastest wins. There are other types of motorsport apart from time trials.
Also there always the painting and photography comps, but again they hardly ever get promoted outside of their own threads. If they mentioned them every week in the WIR or something, and on the Forza hub then it would get more people aware it even exists. That would bring more people in and help reconnect the community.
Some of the unicorn challenge are harder than other. People complain, but if you gave it out say the top 50 %. It would completely defeat the purpose of a challenge or having rare cars.
As far as racing, the big thing is holding your line and allow the faster driver to pass safely. Being unpredictable, blocking, cutting off, will only cause the driver try to pass to get more aggressive. Which usually ends up in hurt feelings. I will take my prefer line until they take control of the inside or outside line. Then I wI’ll hold my side of track. But expect them to hold there side.
And who said that the purpose of CBH is that only a few people beat the challenge so the reward cars end up being rare? I think Turn 10 wants to create CBH and have as much of the community involved in it and have fun. With the Ferrari 312 PB being achievable via leagues they did a semi decent job but if you look at the amount of participants in the current CBH (roughly 50k) and compare that with the amount of FM6 units sold (roughly 1 million) I’d say they failed miserably. Especially when out of those 50k only 1k will get the car and a lot of the others are annoyed with it, especially since the entire community effort is swaying towards only rewarding the best drivers. That’s not community in my terms, that’s elitism.
We have had 1 bounty event this time around, so far.
Whilst I am a supporter of the concept that exclusive content is bad I believe some of the complaints about the current event are a little over the top.
The OP mentions age…well I am older than the OP and beat Triton, so age is not a factor.
In the previous games bounty hunter challenges Triton would be in the top third difficulty wise. There were a few as hard or harder but a lot more that were easier.
The difficulty Turn 10 has is that if they keep the masses happy with say a 1.45 in the current event then the quicker drivers will beat that on their outlap, and a different crowd will be running hundreds of laps to beat the time.
They can not keep everyone happy, challenge wise, at the same time…or can they?
Here is my suggestion for another bounty challenge.
They get as many Turn 10 employees to run as possible,
You get a unicorn if you beat the slowest T10 employee who runs, you get credit bonuses that grow as you beat another Turn 10 employee.
So Voodoo may be in the top 100 and the cockroach in the Turn 10 broom closet may run about a minute slower but that is the unicorn time.
Or you need to beat half the T10 employees who run or something.
Or the bounty sets a time running all assists and no tune and that is the unicorn time but then they can compete with the rest for pride.
All up to keep the 1.45s happy would not encourage the quicker players to run or maybe even put in as much effort on their tunes.
To have a good community you need to inlcude the quicker players too.
As others have said I think that you can’t compare the units sold with the number of participants in an event months after the game was released. But out of all the people who have bought this game I would say many of them haven’t even spent a lot of time on the game in the first place or don’t play it regularly anymore.
So out of the millions that buy this game, how many do you really think pay attention to community. Then out of that number, how many even put effort into the community. I bet the number is alot smaller than you think. The elite you talk are a much bigger portion of that number.
We are already having roughly the same conversation in another thread so I’ll keep this one brief. To compare sales of a product to community attachment and participation is ridiculous. Of the millions of people that have bought GTA, how many play online? How many then play competitively? It’s not an indicator of community engagement at all. What you can draw from the challenge is that 50K people have had a go at it. When you compare that to the 7K that populate some track leaderboards, you can see that it has been something the community as a whole has responded to.
Using your personal experience and feelings to justify your point doesn’t really hold water either, you speak as if you’re certain of the way others feel about it but in the very same thread I see people pushing hard to better themselves and grind out that performance that was eluding them. I also see some top drivers offering help and tunes. That’s community. Nothing elitist about the challenge, or the fact that the fastest are rewarded, there will be plenty of opportunity to obtain the car in the future for those that missed out this time.
Speed comes with time and lots of practice, so why have a CBH that only few have attainted too with the gameplay that’ve already invested in over the years!!! I didn’t mind chasing at all, it’s the failure to attain I don’t like!!!
