Things need to move with the times. Yes, I miss the auction house, gifting, custom lobbies and what not, but the guys at turn 10 are smart and they have done this for a reason. They clearly felt that these features were either pointless or holding them back so they decided to drop them. Yes the community has dwindled down, but the rest of us shouldn’t stop paying the game like we used to because of changes. I trust Turn 10 that they’ll do something great, it just might take some time, until then though we should just keep on playing.
It’s not that I don’t agree with that reasoning; it’s that this is about more than in-game features. Agreeing you have noticed the community dwindling is affirmation of our observations. Sure, we can just “get back to playing,” but the community is an important part of why I enjoy this franchise. Just turning a blind eye is not a solution.
Yes the community is a key part but turn 10 is not turning a blind eye or deliberately hurting the community. They just felt that the features weren’t needed and so removed then. Personally I think losing these features may be a good thing in the future because they could be working on better stuff
Things may have never been totally perfect, but there is a clear ‘change’ through out the series.
Back in FM2:
You had the full garage teams working together, the drivers, the tuners, the painters, the ad guys, the sellers. It was a huge effort and often at times huge events spanning 100’s of pages in hours. You could barely keep a topic on the front page of the forum for 30 mins. There was also a lot of drama, still drama here today so…
There was no gifting, only the AH. There was no tune files, every car was built part by part by the sellers, and other members of the teams if they wanted to. Cars were whole packages. Build, Tune, Paint. It took HOURS.
FM3 came about with some good and bad changes.
Cars could be built instantly from files, the AH was relegated to the back seat by the storefront. Sellers are no longer needed. Profits no longer easily obtainable by other users. Tuners put the cars in their SF, often gifted credits to other team members for profit sharing. Following people made it easy to keep track of releases, TM need not apply.
So no problem, continue as you were apart from the sellers, nothing for them to do here.
CPL’s were removed, hoppers replaced. No way to balance the PI in lobbies, Public Racing took a dive.
Along came FM4
CPL’s returned yay! no one used them outside of leagues. There was no way to balance the lobbies.
Storefront continued the same, Sellers and TM need not apply.
Here is FM5.
Racing is borked.
Storefront is borked.
no gifting.
no clubs.
How on earth can you say they havent killed this community?
Yes the community has dwindled but what I’m trying to say is that it was not turn 10’s intention to do so. It was a mistake from them to remove these features but it may not be a bad thing. To get the community back on track they will have to work harder than they have ever had, to right their wrongs. This could lead them to them creating better things than what we have experienced so far. They did remove these features for a reason and hopefully the removal of these features have been worth the pain of not having them. Hopefully they will bring new better features in for the community now the game had evolved.
There were modders distributing dirty CR and people selling modded cars through the auction house. Turn 10 apparently didn’t have enough Mods to police it, and instead of simply getting more volunteers they decided to just remove the feature entirely. Now we all have to suffer and watch the community die because of a handful of modding clowns. I see no other reason why they would remove such a major community feature. Furthermore, how people can defend the removal of such a feature astonishes me…
FM4 is still going strong because of the auction house, storefront, and gifting. In FH1 we lost the auction house and ended up with a wonkier storefront system. In FM5 those three features were removed. Guess which games are dead right now? FH1 and FM5 (FH2 is also rapidly losing steam). The Forza games with the three major community features, FM4 and FM3, are actually still going strong. Heck, FM2 only died off when the auction house was shut down, but up to that point it was still pretty active. But FH1 and FM5? Dead.
Actually, I can think of another reason why they removed the auction house… How do you get people to buy your latest game? Kill the longevity of the previous one. How do you kill the longevity of a Forza game? Remove the community features such as the auction house, storefront, and gifting. Success! Now I’ll buy the latest Forza game on day one because the previous one is completely dead and I have zero reason to play it anymore.
I’ve gone through all of this months back in a different thread, maybe I’ll just start copy/pasting my old posts from there…
And therefore as a stranger give it welcome.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
If only the problem were as simple as some dirty credits and a handful of modded cars.
Do you know why a Forza gamesave can only exist in one place locally?
Do you know why FM2 was patched to ensure a Forza gamesave could only exist in one place locally?
Do you know what a cameleon/mirror car is?
Do you know why in FM3, FM4 and FH the vinyl editor had to be locked at a maximum of one thousand shapes per side and top?
It’s easy to think that Turn 10 just couldn’t be bothered to devote any time or effort save the auction house and so took it away from you out of spite. It’s easy to think that no one cared and no one put forth any real effort to preserve the auction house.
It’s easy and it’s dead wrong.
And you owe Snowowl an apology because he more than anyone else, as a volunteer no less, has devoted well over a thousand hours over the past eight years to trying to help.
.
.
I know those weren’t the sole two reasons for its removal, but I feel like they’re were more than likely two of the bigger reasons.
Modding, duplicating, other fiendish activities?
To reduce modding?
Yep, I’ve seen and reported many of them.
I always assumed it was because of hardware limitations, as in allowing for more layers to be added could drop the framerate or drag loading times down to an unacceptable point.
Do explain. I’m not being sarcastic, I would legitimately like to be better informed on this.
What I was alluding to (albeit poorly) is that it’s dang near impossible for a handful of Moderators (I don’t know the actual number, but it can’t be high) to police the game as much as is necessary. Had Turn 10 asked for more volunteers to assist Snowowl the modding could’ve been kept under control more easily (he’s only one person vs how many offenders).
For a time there were at least 5 rim trading lobbies going on at once, all full of players with modded rims. Only after I took the time to enter the lobbies, for over a week, and personally save replays and write down the gamertags of well over 50 (probably about 100) modders and send the list to Snowowl did those lobbies stop showing up every single night. If I had Moderation powers I could’ve saved Snowowl some time and removed the offenders myself. But I don’t have that option, and instead have to bother the poor guy and make him go through all kinds of effort to take care of it for me. I can’t be the only one still playing FM4 that would be more than glad to assist in policing the game…
Of what relevance is this to FM6? I’m saying that I strongly believe Turn 10 could bring back the auction house without much of an issue, so long as they add to their “police force” so the modding and exploiting doesn’t get out of hand in the first place. You can’t expect one or two guys to handle all of the Moderating alone, but give them some backup and it may no longer be much of an issue. If modding and exploiting is taken care of, what would the reasons for not having an auction house be?
The only thing I wish is that Turn 10 would address bug reports, or at least acknowledge the ones that they will not fix. For example, (as I’m sure you’ve seen me post quite a bit about here) the Lamborghini Huracan’s dashboard has been incorrect since FH2’s launch, and is still incorrect in FM6 based on the E3 Demo. It is missing the dynamic blue light that follows the rev counter; yet despite all of the reports on this bug, Turn 10 has not even acknowledged it. For a series that prides itself on accurate car models, bugs like this must be fixed when the community finds them.
Yup. Either way, these two things are but a figment of the larger issues inflicting the community and I believe the original intent of this thread was to discuss the status of the community as a whole, not to make it a bug/glitch/inaccuracy reporting thread … though I may be wrong as I have been before.
This goes hand-in-hand with community interaction. People find these bugs (I just listed one in particular for reference) and yet there is never a response from devs. Additionally, I believe that the “larger issues” in the community are all subjective; the importance of various aspects depends on each person’s desires.
Right; but, you’re missing the main point and turning this into one of your infamous Huracan rants.
Again, this does nothing to push the conversation in the direction of discussing the status of a perennial community. It’s less about the game, and more about the franchise as a whole and the Community Team associated with it.
