i am trying to learn gearing and optimizing each shift to stay in the power band. i have been searching all over trying to find explanations for how to achieve this.
back in forza 2, i attempted to do this by shifting from 1st to 3rd, skipping 2nd, and “bogging” the car down until i felt the power surge in 3rd gear. i took note of the rpms here and used that as the beginning of the power band. i dont even know if this is the right way to read this.
one tip i saw was to use street transmissions, and to only adjust the final drive by finding the sweet spot where 0-100 times start to rise.
i am now seeing where you can use telemetry to watch the shifts and the drops in rpms between gears. i suppose you are trying to keep the hp up within the rpm drop to stay in the power band. this is all going with a race transmission. it is also difficult to get an exact reading on rpm when the numbers are jumping around at the limiter.
is there a way to see the dyno/power range of the car you are tuning? by reading that over trying to see the rpms and hp while i drive, i was thinking i could just take that chart and apply it to setting the gear ratios.
i would appreciate any help or suggestions on how some of you go about adjusting gears settings.
