While the Forza Aero kit in FH6 is better than what we have had for nearly 2 decades. it still feels like a half assed job. Why cant we change the Endplates on the wing for instance, why can’t we choose different strut styles? Width of the Wing and depth? (if GT7 can do it you can to!)
I know its a lot of work to do these small but noticeable details but they also have had since probably before FH5 even launched nearly 5? years ago.
HokiHoshi over on YouTube Does a very good deep dive in what is missing from the game currently, mirroring my own concerns about customisation and I hope to see at least this change in future updates.
Credit to Hoshi Hoki on bringing this weird issue up.
Here is my problem: In game, lip spoilers and wings are treated exactly the same even though they do different things to the aero of a car.
We’ve already pushed aside reality for aero in the game, why not add options and make it all adjustable, even aftermarket wings or other OEM spoiler options? Give us a wing, give us lip spoilers for ALL cars. (It’s all I wanted really).
At the very least - they could at least show us the default aero values so if you use math to tune you can tune stock cars better without sort of being forced to apply garish aero.
All that said, I do like the new wing better than the old wing. I just wanted more options, all things considered.
As we learn more about the new Forza Aero I went from super hyped to concerned with breath held.
I’m glad the team recognized how much the old aero was disliked and that they tried to do something with it, but I’m in complete agreement here. It isn’t enough. The gooseneck spoiler style or whatever may be the new hotness but I don’t like the way it looks. I don’t want to be stuck with having to use those goofy looking wings on my cars, or be forced into using those awful looking canard things on the front bumper.
At least it looks like we can finally paint all of the rear wing sections now instead of being forced into carbon fiber, this is a huge improvement. Though so far it looks like the front splitter will still always be carbon.
Let us pick and choose our aero!
As for ‘being ungrateful,’ we’re more than free to voice our concerns. This is what enacts change. It’s also a part of why these forums exist. Judge elsewhere.
I’ve had this reaction myself to some other posts recently. But remind myself that we’re all just passionate car people that love cars and some times we spin out exiting cars and coffee and hit a curb.
While I might agree that ‘halfarsed’ is a touch harsh, I wouldn’t call this suggestion via critique being ungrateful about it. Nor should other suggestions be batted away because we got something we did want. i.e.: Japan.
Nothing being said here is resentful or unreasonable, it was simply expressing more hope for I think more options; not just another canned wing with better fit and finish.
It is a great example. However, they could at least do some easy things - like allowing us to hide different parts of front/rear components one by one. This is just separating the meshes into groups and turning them on/off… Another thing - they could allow resizing. Length/width of the mesh/group. It would unlock thousands of options - by having what’s already in the game. Of course, choosing particular parts, also customizing the exhaust etc., would be great - but it seems like some relatively easy wins are in there just to be grabbed and to improve the existing system by a lot - if they insist on not adding more parts. Just resize and turn parts on/off, it would change a lot.
Yeah well I can tell it’s not easy even as a player and not being in any form of game development work, expectations needed to be lowered to a more realistic level here
The realistic level after 5 years of FH6 being developed and 13 years since Forza has left the Xbox 360 is at least more than 1 type of front aero. People have been asking for actually bearable aero for so long that PGG and T10 should have got the memo that the redesign should come with multiple options, not just one. A random Assetto Corsa modder who does 3D model modifications would be able to craft more than 1 aero option for each car. This isn’t modeling an entire car, just an extra piece of body modification that doesn’t even replace stock parts that are integrated to the body.
As a counter point, Forza’s aero model is a little more complex than most. It’s not true fluid dynamics calculations (that would send even the greatest gaming machines into potato performance mode), but it’s more than just the aero parts impact downforce, and chassis shape, dynamic aero, and other stock aero features are all functional, which is kind of crazy when you think about the insane car list available.
It could be that the complexity of the aero model makes having more than one generic aero upgrade difficult. I don’t understand how, logically, it would be any more difficult than having those licensed aero options, or why keeping old aero options and just adding new ones on top would be so difficult, but I know enough to know that I don’t know enough to speak confidently on the matter.
Fluid dynamics is a crazy science. I can imagine that simulating it can be doubly so.
I’m just providing a potential explanation though. I’m not disagreeing.
Forza needs an absolute banger after the last several years of tire-spinning and crashing. The level of effort being shown off so far doesn’t look like a banger is coming, and for anyone who got to watch Forza Motorsport 2023 launch and immediately slam back into the launchpad in explosive fashion, it’s deja vu.
who in the world cares about the shape of the wing affecting the performance, just give us a transmog system that allows us to build the best car while still changing how it looks
This would be great in FM, but I don’t think the “”“”“new”“”“” engine supports that since it’s literally FM7 with a few tweaks, and more tire points of contact.
Its such an odd choice to use a swan neck wing as the generic option that will appear on most cars. It will look terrible on the majority of the car roster, and passable on just a few.
Which is exactly how I felt about the old Forza Aero. I have no idea why both wings arent available here. Theres plenty of cars I think the old aero will look much better on, and yet again, many cars are going to have 1 option for aero tuning.
I came to Add to the pile of comments in order to make more noise about this…
I will not insult anyone on the team but the choice of a Swan Neck Wing is just overall **Not Ideal for any Sedan or Coupe that comes from the 80’s, 90’s and even some 2000’s vehicles
**
Yes, Race cars specifically do run these kinds of Wings but mostly on modern times.
Cars like the GR86, Mustang Dark Horse, and even up to the Nismo 370Z do fit this kind of wing Archetype, but not the rest and I find it baffling that it’s basically a forced decision if You want to have the ability to modify Aero in a car…
It’s extremely disappointing as someone who was hoping that the promise of “Forza Aero Adapts to each car this time” was shattered Instantly upon watching content from passionate creators.
I also find it slightly infuriating that wings from vehicles that come from Xbox/360 Era that have Tuning house wings, still cannot modify Aero with a proper GT Wing, like the Ings+1 RSX Wing, yet, cars that did get extra parts, like the E92 M3 have a small lip spoiler from SFLA that actually has adjustable Aero
So if a molded lip is enough of an excuse to unlock aero tuning in one car, why is it that on older cars, Aero that is even designed to be adjustable is still off limits? it’s so frustrating
Either unlock the aero tuning for all the old cars with extra aero… or give us, I don’t know, APR Wings like the one present on the new Acura Integra for the rest of JDM Tuners and Modern Muscle Cars… the way this was handled has damaged my decision to get the game.
