Immediately following the Series 18 content update we saw reports about an EventLab issue. Status update:

In the latest Forza Horizon 5 update, Horizon Wilds Takeover, we fixed a miscalculation with the EventLab props budget when entering the Blueprint Builder. This meant that existing events jumped in budget usage when compared to previous versions of the game. The purpose of this change was to ensure the stability of our game on all platforms, as we observed several instances of game crashes in highly detailed events, which was caused by limited memory capacity on some devices.

We’ve listened to your feedback and now understand that we underestimated the impact this would have on EventLab creators, especially those in the middle of creating complex events. We apologize for this.

We’ve reviewed, recalculated, and optimized our limits to bring them as close as possible to those in previous versions of the game while maintaining game stability on all platforms. This will go live with a coming update, and we will share more as soon as we can.

After the update, there will still be a small increase in the budget usage of props when compared to earlier versions of the game, however we expect this will be much reduced and should be enough that players can edit their events to bring themselves back under budget.

We thank you for the passion you put into your amazing EventLab creations, we love seeing what you’re capable of creating with our tools.

Multiplayer

  • Fixed an issue with weather management in Multiplayer races where weather conditions in certain conditions were not consistent between players
  • Developer’s Note:

"One of the most important things for any competitive experience is fairness. Forza Horizon has an exceptionally high skill ceiling, which means that player skill and interaction with the game is what ultimately determines success or failure, not an RNG attribute system. For this to work, competitive conditions must be as equal as possible while still allowing for tactical decisions (like your car and tune) and leaving space for player skill (like how well you handle a given corner).

Working together with members of the Competitive Community, we recently identified several issues with online multiplayer that were creating uneven competitive conditions.

These proved to be related to how the game handled the weather simulation in certain online contexts. This led to situations where certain players would have warmer conditions at the start of the race (which impacted tire temperature at the all-important moment of race start). We’ve resolved this by changing the point at which the physics simulation resets tire temperature, and harmonizing what temperature it resets to.

We were also able to identify situations where players engaging in long race events could experience weather desynchronization. The Competitive Community was “working around” this by only racing at specific times and in specific weather conditions where this was unlikely to occur. With support from the competitive community, we identified an issue where every player’s game would start to run its own version of the weather simulation. Since our weather model has a deterministic phase and a non-deterministic phase this could result in longer races seeing situations where one player had clear weather while another player in the same race was driving in pouring rain. This was because once the deterministic phase was complete, local games would start to randomize their weather in some conditions. We resolved this issue by clamping the weather simulation when the deterministic phase completes, ensuring that everyone will have consistent weather across the entire race.

All of these issues resulted in situations where cool experiences (like racing at night, or endurance races in heavy weather) were not fair experiences from a competitive standpoint. We’ve addressed these issues with the fixes I explained above, giving competitive players the consistent conditions they need to take advantage of everything Forza Horizon 5 has to offer.

Thank you to everyone in the various communities who spoke with me about this, and provided all the excellent data we used to track down what was actually going on. See you in Mexico!

Version *.607.493.0

We’re constantly working to improve the experience in Forza Horizon 5. Below you will find a summary of items fixed or improved upon in this update. Version Number: Xbox One: 2.600.803.0 Xbox Seri

New Features (Available from August 15th)

  • Increased Garage space (from 1000 to 2000 slots)
  • Increased Tune slots (from 600 to 1000 slots)
  • Increased Livery slots (from 600 to 1000 slots) and Vinyl slots to 1000

Developer’s Notes: “I wanted to share some of the complexities behind making a change like this.

The save game also contains a local copy of your campaign progression, as well as your cars, your liveries and tunes, and everything else. It’s “reserved space”, meaning that when we increase the size of the save game, we have to find and assign additional space on the disk to ensure we’ll have it when we need it. If you’re wondering, this update will increase the size of the save game to 2 GB.

Since we synchronise this data to remote storage, increasing the space assigned on disk has a lot of second-tier complexity. For example, we need to increase the number of car thumbnails and car data that can be loaded by screens like Car Select at the start of events, or when you’re viewing your Garage. The Auction House needs to be updated to handle the number of cars you could have at any one time. We need to deploy a new backend to begin supporting the change before we even get the on-disk update out to you, so we’re sure that the servers are spun up and ready when the actual change goes live. Making things even more complicated is the fact that we manage two separate types of remote storage - one for Xbox or Steam (depending on your platform) and the other for our internal servers which primarily support the auction house, as well as the message center and loads of other systems that now need to know MaxCars=2000.

In short, making a change to the number of cars you can has impacts from the bytes on disk, through many screens and systems, and all the way out to the various servers that support the game.

TL;DR you can have 2000 cars now, I’m sorry it took so long to update it, but I hope this explanation provides a little bit of insights into what’s actually involved.
