ANI-MAY Livery Competition
1st May - 22nd May
The history of anime can be traced back to the start of the 20th century, with the earliest verifiable films dating from 1907.[1] Before the advent of film, Japan already had a rich tradition of entertainment with colourful painted figures moving across the projection screen in utsushi-e, a particular Japanese type of magic lantern show popular in the 19th century.
Anime has expanded past tv culture into many art forms in popular culture, it has become a massive part of car culture and can be seen on many JDM cars and large parts of the drift community. The most notable style comes in the form of Itasha.
Itasha. This is a car styling trend that emerged in the 1980s, but has been given a fresh lease of life with new car breeds and emerging tech. Itasha means literally painful or cringeworthy in Japanese, and refers specifically to vehicles that have been decorated with anime, manga, or video game characters.
