I’m all about Rally driving rather than drifting or road racing (cross country is ridiculous). Loved the Dirt series but Dirt 4 is a getting a bit dated and Dirt Rally (and incoming Dirt Rally 2) is TOO sim for me to be fun. So enter Forza Horizon 4. All the rally cars and roads to last a lifetime, but it’s just not quite there…
-Why only 3 races/stages in the weekly PG championships? The UI seems capable of having more than 3 races but I never see it? The championship is over before it begins!
-Can we make our own or use community championships? Have I missed this?
-It’s a shame every race is with other cars. All the bump and grind isn’t very realistic, and id rather be alone on the track time trial/rivals styles.
-Rivals is better than FH3, at least you can filter by ‘dirt’ tracks now. Still a shame there’s not class selection for each track.
-This is a tough one, but tracks are all a bit too wide to support overtaking. Would be interesting to have some routes that were narrowed somehow with barriers and obstacles.
And the potential of blueprints and course creation - I made some fantastic courses, only to find that management of them is lacking:
-After making and testing an awesome course I made, I exited the obligatory 3 lap race thinking it was unnecessary and then lost the course completely. Lame…
-Has been mentioned, but it’s crazy you can’t delete and edit courses etc. Im now stuck with some lame experiments that clutter up my little curated rally tracks.
-Finding other people’s rally courses is virtually impossible. All you seem to be able to find is hacky courses designed to earn credits. Im surprised you can’t search for ‘dirt’, ‘car class’.
-Also being able to search by user name would be interesting. I could see a world where people have playlists of courses that they promote outside of the game in communities etc.
-Imagine if you could use community courses as rivals tracks. Endless potential there.
And PLEASE can we get a way to turn off ALL music in the game, including the environment music when driving by crowds. Those poor NPCs listening to the same 3 songs on repeat…
You can delete your custom routes. Just make a new custom route and when you’re about to save it you can browse between all of your old routes and delete them one by one.
Right. I see what you mean. I can’t find a way to delete old blueprints though.
I tried to create a blueprint using an existing course of mine as well, and there was no way to ‘select’ a course unless I first created a bogus one that was 10 meters long after the starting gate, then delete it, then choose the one I wanted. It’s all pretty backward!
I noticed the same. The only way I’ve seen to delete blueprints is to delete the custom route, which deletes every blueprint made with that route. Not an option for most people if they made varied blueprints from one route. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ meh, oh well.
I don’t know if you can delete blueprints straight up, but once you hit the limit of 5 blueprints at an event location, you can replace any of them you wish with a new one.
They could go the Rallisport Challenge route and just ghost everyone to make it half-rally/ half rallycross.
The menus in nearly all aspects are poor. When I go looking for tunes or skins, I either know the designers name or have to search by keyword. Simply looking for, say, an A-class tune dumps randomness on me with 1-star never-downloaded tunes showing up before, say, a Don Joewon Song tune. Pro tip: let’s get some SORT and FILTER in there, Forzabrohs.
Sad indeed. Routes are written in stone. WHY? When you’ve got like a 12-mile route, there’s no way you want to go back in to recreate -and- test it. Agreed.
LOL the script kiddies of racing design. I’m with you there. The big complaint I have with Codemasters/Dirt is that each of the like 6 environments they have contain only a few variations on the same track, and then the game is to memorize those tracks. People don’t watch WRC or play rally games to memorize routes like they’re a circuit: we want crazy twists and turns with a co-driver barking out pace notes and never really having the same game twice.
Any of these games could potentially be a cult classic (especially Horizon 4) but yeah without depth it seems like mediocre DLC cash grabbery.
I agree. FH4 has finally singled out rally racing instead of mixing it in with the other race types.
I’m a big fan of rallying as well. I guess because it’s something different, heck I don’t know. But for the first time, I played the original FH1 Rally Expansion that I’ve always wanted to play. I’d forgotten it was time-based and after the first few races, I found that it’s different enough for me to like it. Finally mixing things up, moving away from nothing but asphalt all day long. The changes made to the original map to create the rally stages made it all that much better.
With FH4, dirt races are within their own group. And when I first saw the trailer for Fortune Island, I was glad I’d bought the Ultimate Edition with the Expansion Pass. First time playing the expansion I was getting a lot of Storm Island-ey vibes. I love Storm Island as well, but for its own reasons. It’s not time-based but also mixes a few cross country races into the island championship ladder. The Gauntlet events were also revolutionary from my perspective. All those spotlighted checkpoints and ramps… awesome. I was kind of hoping we’d get something similar in Fortune Island, but I guess not.
However Fortune Island is almost completely rally/offroad based. All of the dirt roads, small paths in the forest, and the hairpin turns on the mountainside. That’s what I’d like to see more of. That, and Fortune Island also brings the two new endurance races, the Kraken and Leviathan, completely dirt and offroad based circuits. About time, lol.
But the new custom route creator is amazing with both the original game and on Fortune Island. So much capability there. I’d like to be able to narrow down the search query even further but for now I’ve got some long dirt tracks to race. It seems like Fortune Island really caps of FH4 for me. I honestly can’t wait to see what this next expansion will be.
