Why don’t these change after upgrades? Is it a licensing/manufacturer issue? Does it bog down resources?
What’s the reason behind this? They would show on the car in Forza 2 after applying upgrades.
Looking for clarification, that’s all. I’m a car nut at heart, and it bothers me when I upgrade a stock road car to well over 700 horses, and still see those humble-looking gentleman-like exhaust pipes coming out the back. Where’s my race exhaust?
Also, imagine having to model each and every car with each and every type of exhaust design. T10 haven’t got the time for something that’s not all that demanded by the community, so they won’t bother
Some of the bumper upgrades have bigger exhausts which is nice. Nothing is stopping T10 from modeling a larger more aftermarket looking exhaust.
The challenge is the new 3D model for the exhaust would have to be modeled for each and every car bumper since unlike the wheels they are mostly in different places and in some cases different shapes. Doable but would take time to make sure in 3DS Max (or whatever Forza uses) that the new exhaust looked correct. There would also need to be a 2D texture wrap for it. I’d imagine they wanted to do this but was likely cut along the way. They would need a way to separate out the exhaust so the entire model wouldn’t need an extra copy. The flame pop textures would also need to be adjusted to fit the new exhaust. Extra work and extra space needed for all of this.
I have a similar issue with the inner windshield banner but it wouldn’t require extra effort. In most cases banners are tinted and not fully opaque. It is done very cheaply in Forza, just a stripe of opaque black. Doing it right doesn’t really take any longer and doesn’t create any more texture space. I know this because I’ve done it for PC sims. pCars is buggy as heck but they get this aspect right on their race cars. The new AMG GT3 is a good example. Nice looking tinted banner from the inside, perfect.
Really? Have you been a legal advisory party to the agreements between Microsoft Studios/Microsoft/Turn 10 and the various car companies?
Manufacturers dictate how their vehicles are displayed, which is why even certain brands of rims are available only for certain cars, or “body kit” add-ons are restricted. If you have legal authority for advising the developers (see the “credits” in-game for all the stipulations and legal entities involved), send them an email at forzafb@microsoft.com
Whoa! Settle down there little fella. All I said is nothing is stopping them and tried to answer the OP’s question since I’ve done this type of work as a hobby.
I guess T10 has the exclusive and exhaustive legal rights to add chin spoilers and deck spoilers to almost all cars while also securing legal rights to allow us to wrap a car in wood vinyl (at least any that I’ve bothered to try) but increasing the circumference of the exhaust tip by a couple inches and giving it a different finish requires Johnni Cochran. Good to know.
I don’t think he needs to have credentials to make an observation like that. Although I know second-hand that manufactures can be very strong on their representation (been part of indie developer boards for many titles and have seen the struggle) it is definitely a valid viewpoint considering that there must be a few who are more lax than the others about this kind of thing.
They can easily program a few different types of street, sport and race mufflers to show up on cars. It’s not like the game has photo-realistic graphics anyway. They can get the exhaust to show if they want - I do not think it requires taking photos of ALL cars with modified exhausts.
Perhaps, it’s a licensing issue at the end of the day… that manufacturers don’t want their cars taking the shape of after-market exhausts. But then again, there are rims and body modifications… so why not exhaust tips!!?
Absolutely hate the idea of boosting a classic, sports or muscle car from the pre-90s era, with thin pipes sticking out. Ruins the immersion. So again, if modified tires, rims and bodykits show up on the car, why not mufflers??? Seems to be a very odd design choice.
Manufacturers give permission to T10 to use the bodykits by different manufacturers. Exhausts would fall under the cosmetic side of things, unlike tue Forza bodykit which provides performance differences.
