Eventlab Browser UI and Feature Overhaul Concept

The current Eventlab browser is not equipped to deliver an adequate user experience. Finding high-quality blueprints outside of the ‘PG Editors Choice’ tab is near impossible without using third-party forums such as discord, reddit, or other platforms. There are a few reasons for this;

  • No custom pictures or thumbnails are available.
  • Only a maximum of 15 events are shown at once.
  • Searching for events only shows the top 15 events of that query.

I have created a concept UI, based on two already existing menus in the game. In these concepts, I have added some new features to improve the user experience and make sharing events much easier. Shown below are three new icons which have been added to the UI to improve the user experience.

8. Icons

  1. Followed Player
  2. Favorited Track
  3. Shared Track

These additions and changes have been added to inform the player of the origin of each event. Players may be more likely to play an event if it has been made or shared by a player they follow.

Eventlab Main Menu

The main Eventlab menu has been changed to display the browsers’ most useful features to improve the user experience.

The menu has received three new tiles, which either display content such as tracks uploaded by players you follow, or speedy access to your favorites. The search function has been moved to the main page so that players that wish to input a share code or find a creator, have a more obvious access point. The followed creator page has had notifications added for when tracks are uploaded or shared.

Eventlab Browser Trending Page

The browse page should be able to display an infinite amount of events. The first three categories have been reshuffled and changed. Instead of the ‘PG Editors Choice’ being displayed first, a trending page should replace it. This will display the most played and highly rated community blueprints over a recent period of time.

This UI design was heavily inspired by the photo gallery UI already in the game. The UI not only supports user thumbnails but can display many more events at one time compared to what is used currently. Two of the new icons have been used to display if an event has been added to favorites or is from a followed player.

Eventlab ‘My Events’ Page

The previous changes should also apply to the ‘My Events’ tab, which would have the options to choose between unpublished and published events.

The functionality of being able to preview the map, event type, weather, and duration and to see whether the track has a custom route, props, and custom rules has been retained. A more obvious toggle has been added to make it easier for first-time users to know how to view more details of the track.

Eventlab ‘Followed Creators’ Page

This page is a feed of every new event that has been made by players you follow. Each new event added to the feed is marked as ‘new’ and creates a notification which can be seen in the games pause menu. There is also an ‘All Time Greats’ page for content from these creators, so their most popular tracks are always easily available.

Another feature that has been added to this page is the ability to repost and share other players’ events. Shared events should also provide a notification to the player. Marked with the arrow icon are events reposted by players you follow, which will allow a larger amount of high quality creators’ tracks to be found and played.

Event Details Page

When an event is interacted with, a new page should be opened with expanded details and more ways to interact with the creator.

This new page design would allow for the thumbnail to be viewed in more detail as well as having additional pictures uploaded for the track. This page allows for further interaction with the track creator themself, such as being able to easily access their, creative hub and favorite or share the event. Viewing event vehicle restrictions is made more obvious to the user. The share code, map, and description are also shown by using the information toggle.

Additional functionality for each event should be that when an event is completed or quit (in Solo, Co-op and PvP) the player should be returned to the ‘Event Details’. This is so players are able to then favorite or share the event without having to go through their history or using a share code to find it for a second time.

solid idea, excellent pitch.

would love to see more focus on eventlab, as after all, this is the feature that will keep the game fresh and alive in the future …

The way to redesign the Eventlab interface seems to me to be an excellent idea, since some things are very confusing. The things that are most useful are the event thumbnail, the separate search button, notifications from followers who have created a new event, etc.

I don’t know if you know me but I usually make a template with details showing what an event would be like like weather, car restriction, music, number of opponents, etc. It would be nice to add those extra details personally (but I doubt it). For example…

Very good proposal and beautiful design

Another addition id like to see is the ability to preview work in progress. I want to see how my build looks at night without having to exit EL, save the race then test drive it. I want a “light switch” of sorts. Would save a ton of time.

I LOVE THIS DESIGN

It’s so clean and easy to use, you can visibly see what the event looks like before clicking on it.

AMAZING WORK AS ALWAYS JAMESMIATA!

Great work James, especially removing the limit of only showing 15 events at once – although I suspect they probably have a technical reason why they do that. I’d imagine the load up page would hang trying to load up hundreds of search results. Maybe this could be fixed by having a filter in the search so you could sort it by “newest”, “most played”, “most liked”, “followed players” and even a “I’m feeling lucky” random filter. They sort of have something like this already (even though it’s not very user friendly) so I’m sure it wouldn’t take too much work to integrate into your system.

On a side note, one feature I would love them to include would be some way to increase the prop count and then put some sort of indication that the event is very prop heavy. It seems to me that the only reason the prop count is so restrictive is because those playing on last gen consoles and lower end pcs would have problems loading a big event. So why not have some sort of warning logo – like an exclamation mark – which would let the user know that if they are playing on a last gen console or lower end pc, they may have problems with lag in the event but for those of us on next gen consoles or higher end pcs, it will be fine? They already have logos for custom routes, props used and custom rules so adding a 4th logo – like an exclamation mark – stating it’s a big blueprint shouldn’t be too difficult.

Really impressive!

I love the design. But the event details page isnt really needed And just adding more and more UI over UI on top - no. The rest of this - im down for.

You could have an additional button in the browse page that shows details such as: track layout , how many laps and time of day, description+ sharecode and make it like a pop up side screen.

Click show details to show details, then the same button thats layed out changes to hide details to hide details.

It was perfect, PERFECT,everything, down to the last minor detail.WHY didnt PGG did this already?

Wow! Maximum Effort. Great ideas and I liked that you used FH5 assets to illustrate. Let’s Go!

that’s exactly what we need!!!
