One thing I’d really love to see improved in EventLab is the atmosphere around race environments — especially when it comes to grandstands and spectator areas.
Right now, we can place grandstand props and seating structures, but they’re always empty. When you’re building circuits or larger race venues, those empty stands can make the event feel lifeless, even if the track design itself is great. Having some form of crowd presence built into grandstand props — even if it’s simplified or animated at a distance — would make a huge difference to the energy and immersion of custom events.
It would also be great to see an increase in the number and variety of props we can use in EventLab. More barriers, structures, banners, lighting, and environment pieces would give creators more freedom to build events that feel like real race weekends rather than empty test tracks.
EventLab is one of Horizon’s most powerful features, and adding more atmosphere and prop flexibility would take custom events to the next level.
Agreed! Users built a ton of great custom maps on FH5, and they all felt dead with the empty infrastructure.
Horizon doesn’t feel like a “festival“ with zero people present.
Playground Games is very careful not to allow players to go all Carmageddon and run over NPCs in the game. So while I like your idea, the props would have to be carefully designed so that drivers in your Event Lab couldn’t reach the crowd.
A grandstand object probably wouldn’t be too hard to do this way since it’s elevated. For more trackside spectators behind a barrier, they would probably have to make a prop with low concrete walls all around it instead of just the side facing the track, so there’s no way in.
Even with very careful design, there will probably be some clever creators who figure out a way to combine props so players drive over top of NPCs or something so PG may want to avoid the issue all together. Too bad, it’s a good idea.
Great points actually - completely forgot myself that we have to account for people who want to do that… I think your first statement - grandstands. This could be implemented easily i would hope with spectators
